everyday i see awful drivers, but today there were 3 cars driving in 1 way roads against opposing traffic...they want head on collisions??? in other countries there are insane drivers but all drive like cab drivers where they fit 5 cars into roads meant to have 3 lanes, and in US ppl still cant drive straight in one lane so they drive in the middle of two lanes. ahh im just venting maybe im PMSing...

I read in a magazine that in Italy, if you're doing twice the speed limit, most cops won't pull you over because they trust that you can control the car.
When I went to Netherlands last year, I did'nt notice a single bad driver. They all drove perfect, no need for honking horns, hardley any accidents, and best of all...no S.U.Vs.

Yes, in the US we all can't drive.

I know I try to drive in all 8 lanes of traffic when I can. I just weave in and out of all of them. And when there's a concrete barrier between us, I just drive over it and try to cause accidents.

problem with the US is to get your lisence you pretty much have to be able to be able to back into a parking space 1 out of 4 times and stop at a stop sign.

They're always speeding (a speedometer? what's that?) Don't ever check their blind spots when merging, and you'll be lucky if you even knew they were going to merge over, because alot of people are also too lazy to move their index finger so as to activate the turn signals.
Everybody's on cell phones, or drinking or eating something, nobody's watching where they're going or paying attention to road signs, the assholes on the on ramps don't seem to know that it is the slow lane that yeilds to the fast lane (some asshole idiot in a cadillac wasn't yeilding so I let off to let them in, because I figured it was probably some old lady - but it was really just some punk ass wanna-be "gangsta" who apparently figures that an old-fogey car is really bling. Interesting how closely related "hip" youth and senior citizens are: they don't listen, they always think they know best, they always need to have their way, and they dress really goofy...)
and of course nobody even knows any traffic laws either, even basic stuff such as that it is illegal to change lanes in the center of an intersection, I got the finger and a rash of road rage thrown at me, because I made a right hand turn, and the guy making a left hand turn at the same time, wanted to go from the very center lane all the way to the outside lane in one swoop. If we had had an accident the Police would have told him who was being the idiot.

Or rather, that alot of illegals (illegal immigrants) don't even have lisences or insurance... alot of women I know shouldn't have theirs either! One I know FAILED her test, but they decided to give her the license anyway!!!

We just got a new freeway interchange. The offramp turns to 4 lanes, 2 left turn and 2 right turn lanes.
When cross traffic has a green, the right turn lanes have a RED ARROW.
So far, I have not seen ONE SINGLE CAR sit through the red arrow. (Excepting me, my husband, and my parents of course.) I have seen well over 30 cars run the red arrow. If I stop for the arrow and wait for a green, people honk and gesture.

I am in favor of much, MUCH more difficult driver's license testing. I am in favor of different classes of driver's licenses, depending on the type of vehicle being driven. The car test would be very different from the SUV test, being that the vehicles themselves are inherently so very different.

I'm all about *bending* the rules if the situation permits. But not breaking them. Except speeding.

Things about driving in L.A. that have been on my mind latley.

1. People go 55 in a 35 zone but drive 20 on the freeway onramp.

2. ladies in S.U.Vs are all street-racers, why else would they all floor the gas pedal at the sight of a green light?

3. People buy S.U.Vs so they can see over other cars, everybody gets an S.U.V ...then nobody can see over anybody elses car, so they get bigger S.U.V.s, and they get taller, and taller, and taller, until small cars are safe because you san see UNDER the traffic.

4. It's impossible to be followed by the same car for more than 3 minutes, you just HAVE to be passed, even if you're pushin the speed limit.

5. People in L.A. accuse street-racers of driving unsafley, then they do thier homework behind the steering wheel (witnessed), drink coffee at 85 MPH, and last but not least...drive S.U.Vs.

Thats about it.

I'm from the LA area too and have witnessed some crazy stuff myself...they say that if you can drive in Southern California, you'll have no trouble driving anywhere else

My wife just got back from her trip to Shanghai and Seoul - shes of the opinion that anyone who drive in Korea is taking their lives into their own hands. Nobody pays any attention to traffic signs, laws or each other. Its a big free for all.

We have dumbass drivers that's for sure. I've almost been hit or seen them more times than I can count. But has anyone been to Mexico and ridden in the Taxi's. That's some scarey shit. They'll get you from one side of town to the border in like 2 minutes. Talk about pissing your pants.....

Colorado gets worse by the day. In a five minute period over like twenty feet, I almost got hit the guy brushed my back side, and then once the light was red, an old honda was stopped behind this huge truck, and while the light was still red the honda just gasses it and smashed into the trucks tow hook. Laughed my ass of but i woulda kicked the guys ass for hittin my car for no reason. BTW, the truck driver just drove off.

Out of all the states I've driven in (and it's a lot) I've got to say that Colorado has the worst drivers in America. People driving 55 in the fast lane, Polish road blocks, you name it, Colorado has perfected it.

Guys you seriously got it easy in the U.S., I live in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and believe me the drivers here and 10 times worse than anything in the U.S. . Just look up some of this countries statistics on the web and you'll see what i'm talking about.

For one thing, one out of every 5 cars here is an S.U.V. like a landcruiser or nissan patrol.
Secondly, well when i go to pick up my sister from school I see countless and countless kids around 15-17 who are driving their big powerful S.U.V.'s back from school coz their driver lets them (everyone has a driver here by the way :p ).
Third, too many young guys here have rich daddy's to buy them porsches, mercedes sl500's and pretty much anything they want, with all that money they don't give a shit if they're gonna damageor crash their car so they drive like maniacs 9 times out of 10.
Fourth, the fines here are ridiculously petty and small. for speeding regardless of how much over the limit, the only fine you will pay is equivalent to around $50 U.S.dollars and thats it. I am convinced this is why there is such a high road accident fatality in this country but its never gonna change.

Anyone who drives and SUV and has not had an accident (their day is coming).

Any blonde women who drive anything.

Any illegal immigrants driving anything.

Any kid under the age of 19 who thinks he's the shit cuz Daddy bought him a great car to make up for everything he's lacking.

Any senior citizen that is 'always right'.

Anyone from any foreign country that did not pass a North American drivers test with absolute 100% flying colours.

This is true, about the speeding. I was there for xmas and was blown away. My inlaws drove 10-15 over the whole time, and NEVER PASSED ANYBODY, because everyone else was going at least 15-20 over the limit. It was so strange, because here in Utah we have about 1/2 the people speeding (but not quite as fast!) and 1/2 going REALLY slow looking for the antiques shop or the country kitchen buffet.

To the person who said Californians are the worst drivers...no, retired Californians are the worst drivers. They still drive frantically as though they're in Cali, but without the vision, reflexes, or ability to operate a turn signal that they used to have.

I had an idea kind of like that; every car gets a paintball gun and two different colors of paintballs, we'll say red and blue. If you see a driver doing something really stupid, you peg 'im with a red paintball, a smart driver gets a blue one. (you would need A LOT more red than blue)

I never though I'd say this but FL has the worst drivers in the world. Old people drive so slow that walk past them and the ones that drive fast are only trying to get to bingo halls and early bird specials. They can park worth shit(it literally takes 5 tries of backing up & straightening the car out). Thank God my grandmother drives better than these hell-bent, pruned-juiced up ass-monkies.

this may seem stereotypical but i would say 90% of women (U.S.) that drive are the worst drivers you will ever see. I was driving on the highway when this girl in a cavalier goes flying past me almost hits a guy hawling a boat then makes the worst lane change i have ever seen. she goes flying almost off the road. she was driving on the little bumps that they make for people who arnt paying attention and sometimes drift off the road. she then continues to run a red light. Im guessing she 2 fast 2 furious and got the idea that she could race her car like them.

It is so bad in MP, that many years ago, the police department was selling a baseball cap that said "I survived driving in Monterey Park"! The company I work for warned us to stay off the Atlantic Blvd. and Garfield Ave. on and off ramps to the 10 fwy, where many rear end collisions happened.

Atlantic and Garfield where the 60 fwy is during rush hour...pure hell (especially Atlantic). The 10 fwy during rush hour going east is pure hell also. Did it once, not driving it during rush hour ever again.

Actually, to my recollection, I haven't been 'run off the road' by either. Cut off a few.. hundred times by the soccer moms maybe. And I've never had any problems with the 4x4s except for some tailgating.

Some people can drive, some people can't. I'm sure the majority of those people that I have had to avoid weren't born in this country and are unaccostomed to the rules and patterns of the US roadways. I know I was when I first drove and probably would be if I went to Asia or South/Central America.

The thread title says the US has some of the shittiest drivers and I was simply relating my experience and observations. Being born a US citizen, I consider it to be my ethnic background, so take a look at the thread title and tell me it doesn't have a place. Actually no. Ask someone who has to deal with them on a constant basis. When they're illegal, they don't have much incentive for getting a drivers license and therefore, insurance, do they? You can always tell the illegal ones on the street because they're driving,

A. A complete piece of shit, or a complete piece of shit with chrome fender eyebrows and/or some other incredibly tacky JC Whitney special bolt-on.

B. They drive WAY under the speed limit, (sometimes half the limit), so the cops hopefully wont pull them over.

When the workers are getting out of the grape fields at around 2:00 - 3:00 pm, seriously, just park on the side of the road and stay there for a half hour or so, because you WILL get into an accident from all the workers trying to book out and get home. Not to mention that they're drunk 90% of the time when they're leaving the fields! (The ground under the vines is literally COVERED in tequila bottles and empty beer boxes). Yeah, sure, they're safe drivers all right...

Every time there is an accident on the autobahn, it's typically an American who was just travelling at 100+ mph, the sole reason being only that they have that option. And also because Americans have a speed limit imposed on them, we do many other things while driving. On the other hand, a German does nothing but concentrate on driving; no cell phone, no eating, no putting on makeup, etc.

The guy completely ignored the signs that say you can't turn left, was in the wrong lane, and stuck out into oncoming traffic. I honked at him and he gave me the finger. (I'm in the white "car" ;))

wow, I agree with Jay. Different licences for different vehicles would be great. It will most likely never happen but its a nice thought. Truck drivers have to have their CDL, so why not a certain classification for SUV and 3/4-1ton trucks, etc. Oh, and old people should have to retake the driving test every couple of years after they reach a certain age also!!

But I also think I should be in charge or deciding which old people get their liscences anyways. I have actually come up with a scheme to do some pre-screening on old people:

They come into the front door fo this building, where they must walk down a good sized flight of stairs. If they can't make it down the stairs in a halfway decent time, thats the first test, theyre out. then we come to the food table, where those who made it down the stairs are invited to eat. If they can't keep peas on a fork because their hand shakes too much, thats test two, theyre out. After that, whoever is left will be given some kind of video game to test hand-eye coordination as well as reflexes/reaction time. This will be graded completely subjectivly. after that, if there is anyone left, then we might try a road test.
