I thought i'd step away from cars for a bit and draw a bike. This is WIP of a '75 Harley Low-rider. This will take me more time than the cars, because of the high detail level. It took about 6 hours for the outline. Up to date, i have spent around 9 hours.

I don't think art should be judged by how long it takes.

It should be judged by the result.

Sure it took him 9 hours, but I now of plenty of people who could try and try and not produce something like that in 9 hours.

time shud be taken into consideration for one reason and thats cos things turn out better the more time u spend on anything (and plus this guy practically traced the outline)... like i sed im not bringin this guy down ..far from it.. i admire his patience..and relative skill ,but im sayin with 20 hours on hand a lot of the others users who posted pretty decent stuff cud do just as well if not better

That is completely false. I have seen people here spend as much as 40hours on drawings and they still look bad. Some people just arent artists, and no matter how long they spend on a drawing it still wont look great. Not to mention you have to have the eye for detail and reflection. I myself have spent hundreds of hours on drawing cars in color and I still cant. Its not an issue of time at all, its and issue of skill, and natural talent.

Thats quite enough, ya hear?

You're not giving constructive criticism, in fact, you're not even talking about the drawing. And as much as you may deny it, you are bringing him down, and I don't tolerate that. So clean it up, or leave.

Slidenride: I was taught the grid method in school, and i use it to get the proportions as accurately as possible. My ref pics are always smaller than my drawings so its never "traced". Besides, many great, professional artists(including da vinci) have used the grid method. if you seriousley need proof, go to www.artskills.com/gridhistory.htm

As for the time put into my work, i spend that amount because it is a hobby i enjoy. The time isn't an issue for me. I spend the necessary time to get the results i am happy with. I recently came across an artist who had spent 250 hours on a pencil portrait. The picture is incredible and i know that i'm not capable of drawing like that no matter how many hours i spend. Time is not an issue.

so far that looks like a picture, one thing im not sure cuz its a bike but on the handle bar, the orange blinker lights, the one farther to us u drew bigger and the closer smaller, its the wrong way, i think!?!? as i said i dont noe about bikes/ bike drawings, nice drawing by the way.

So these drawings dont look real at all? *sarcasm*

I wonder what bonzelite will say this time...

slidenride
05-18-2004, 11:53 AM
All im asking is one question..bear with me..if u were to do a piece in two hours and then take 20 hours do the same piece are u trying to tell me that both wud still be equally good?

slidenride
05-18-2004, 12:17 PM
For god's sake the only statement im disagreeing with is "u make the the rest of us look bad"..ra_15 's stuff is really good...and those insanely awesome renderings of bonzelite ..god knows whatll happen if he spends so much time on a piece...yes this guy's picture is awesome..mindblowing even..but there are others on this forum who deserve equal amount of praise... as far as constructive criticism is concerned ill put in my two cents (even tho i cant draw for nuts)...the fuel tank..somethin seems a wee bit off about it..i dunno

mike@af
05-18-2004, 04:35 PM
(even tho i cant draw for nuts0

Why dont you do what you are always preaching?

"If you spend the same time on a drawing as he does, then it will be equally good" Spend 20 hours on the same drawing Alex is doing, and then get back to me. See if your statement holds true.

And we give them plenty of praise as well. Now, seeing as how this is stuffbyalex's thread, why not quit trying to bring him down?

And even if we do bite and take your little argument, who are you to complain about us being too generous with praise? Does it really matter how long someone spends on a piece? Why not look at the final product instead of how long it took to get there.

Now, listen to lostprophets and GTmike400, they speak the truth.

LOL!

Sometimes I think the amount of time you spend on drawings is how good you are.

Stuffbyalex is probably the best drawer here, he spends around 20 hours.

Asaenz is really good and probably spend alot of time on his drawings

ilov2xlr8 is really good and spends about 8-10 hours

I'm just amazing (LOL *j/k*) and spend 2-6 hours

yes. this is the brutal reality.

an addendum to it: the more you draw, the faster you draw; the more the skill flows through the resident talent. it is literally, too, a physiological metamorphosis. muscles and neuropaths are built up. therefore, the two must merge: skill must come up to meet the "talent volume per cubic meter," so to speak.

nothing will put a candle to your a$$ more quickly than a deadline. you will fake it till you make it, brother, i tell you that. drawn well or not, you gotta put out.

as for the motorbike, it is awesome. it looks like colored pencil. i don't care how long it took. it is spot-on. you are one helluva renderer.
