alternator or something else??

My girlfriend has a 1997 grand am SE 4cyl. Her battery light came on on her way to work today. She didn't make it home under her own power.
Now I naturally would think the alternator isn't charging. As she drove along she started getting more warning lights on the dash, abs, check engine ect. Then something really strange happened the doors started locking and unlocking themselves.

She got worried, pulled over and shut it off. Would not start again. We get it home, have to throw jumper cables on it to get the windows to roll up.

I pull the battery bring it inside it's reading 12.3 volts. Throw it on a 10 amp charge and it's pullin 8.

When it's done charging tomorrow I'll throw it back in and see if the alternator is charging.

Also deleloped a water leak into the floorboard about 2 weeks ago.

I guess just wondering if there is anything else that could cause the alternator not to charge.

I had inadvertently unplugged the alarm module in my 84 porsche 944 and caused the alternator to stop charging, when I pulled it and had it tested they said the diode tree was bad. So I replaced the rectifier, when it still didn't work, I bought a new alternator....then found out that unplugging that module will keep voltage from going to the excitor for the alternator.

So before I spend $300 and who knows how many hours on this one I thought I would ask.

and no, nothing has been unplugged recently

Thanks in advance,

Adam

It's probably just the alternator going bad.
Have the alternator tested at Autozone for FREE.
