I have a 92 hatch with 123,000 miles. I was thinking about getting a turbo for my KA because everyone said that it was the best if you are on a budget, but something hit me. The turbo kit from f-max that i want is 4500 bucks. Now if i got an Sr swap for around 2500 (for the full front clip), I will have saved 2000 dollars!!! So why is the kit cheaper? I am still not completely against either one. All i am asking is for the 300 or so hp that i am looking for,and the budget that i am on, would I be able to mod the sr20det to what i could do with the turbo kit? Keep in mind that i must rebuild my engine.

well most people build there own kits and you can make a nice KA-T kit for 2G or less. If you gotta rebuild then you can go all out with stronger insides for your KA or just go with the SR20 if you dont wanta rebuild thats up to you. But in your case it might be cheaper to swap

You mean like piecing together with different parts? Is that good quality? What kind of turbo would you use? What piping?

exactly right, when u make ur own kit can be as low as $600

if you do the work yourself, you would save money. However you if can't, they it will be more expensive to do the swap than the turbo.

thx I used 2g as a bit of high balling figuring top of line new parts maybe some install time too. but yes 600 even can be done!
I've seen lotta high HP Ka-ts 400hp or higher on pump

That's Fresh Alloy... I remember that car too. This forum has very FEW KA-Ts, so I'm pretty sure you didn't see it here. It ran around 5-7 psi right? It looked pretty damn good, and looked clean and proper, but I think he had a boost leak problem.

Even if you get a clip for $2500 the SR swap will end up being way more I would think after accessories. If you get lucky and get the stock SMIC with your clip and all the needed parts, you'll still need to pull it all apart and check it out and there's always gonna be lots of little things you need to get, (clutch, oilpan, fluids, gaskets, etc etc) So if you are budgeted I'd probably go with the Depot Turbo o-P

after all of the money you spend buying, shipping, and installing you still only have 205hp where as with a KA-T at 5lbs, you could have in the neighborhood of 215 hp depending on what turbo you get and the specs of the turbo. You will also have way more torque. And in the end, you will only spend about $1500.
