Kill Switch

My car is getting really nice again after 3 years in the dumpster.

Is there a way to easily rig up a hidden switch so nobody
can ram a screwdriver in it and drive away?

I don't have money for an alarm (I have a fake blinking light),
but really criminals that want it get around the alarm anyway.

I want it to not start.

Condor, i helped a friend of mine do something like this also, ill run through the steps.

1. Mount a real cut off switch( where only YOU would remember), and one fake switch in a somewhat obvious location( like a dummy switch).

2. Cut the power wire that goes to your starter. strip the cover off, then put a butt connector on BOTH of them (do not conncet them yet)

3. run 3 wires to your real switch:
a. positive ( from the battery, you know, the one that was cut)
b. ground
c. actuator (to your starter )

4. Ground the ground wire to a solid ground. (tounge twister)

5. attach the positive to the wire from the battery with the butt connector.

6. attach the actuator wire to the wire that goes to the starter, using the other butt connector.

And WALA, your done, also BIG tip dont tell anyone where you hide the REAL switch.

Hope this helps!
Matt

well, they would make some noise doing that and i would come out blazing hahahhahahaha
although you make a very good point.
i might look at doing something with a switch on the ecu. i've got to think it out some more for sure.

The main thing is that you can make the kill switch work for anything. Automatics, on the starter, standards probably be good on the fuel pump, they may get it started but they wont get very far.

I know a car "robber" (witch is my child hood friend). he steals cars for a living. I got busted for jacking up a car.... but i learned my lesson... you are wright RSLaser, you can put a kill switch on any thing... but if the "robber" wants the car, he will take it.....they will be expecting those kind of things, and if at first they dont succed...they will try agian...but if its just some stupid junkie and only knows the basics... a switch or 2 should stop them in there tracks! 1 of my kill switches (of 4) is the neatist!! when i activate 1 switch it,and the lighter plug isint in.... you aint going nowere!!! try to be creative... make multiple locations and DO IT ALONE!!!! trust no friend...cause some times your best friend.....may be your worst enemy...trust no one in this manner...so dont go saying to every one that you have or, where the locations are....be wise... and you will allways keep your car safe!!!

Thanks! That is great advice. I realize I can never stop a professonal. My hope is a professional won't be after an 87 CRX. I mean, the resale value isn't that great, hopefully not risking your life/freedom over if you are a professional. I guess I'm trying to deter joyriders or somebody that needs some parts to complete their project car. I like that idea with the lighter. And having more than one switch. This is my next upcomming project after AC and emissions.

How did you wire your kill with the cig. lighter?

I wired it with 2 swtiches....1 goes from the igniton(or starter, ecu, what ever you like...preferbly the igniton)to the back side of the lighter plug...then it goes to the other switch...if the plugs not in then there is no constant current so it wont run...the other switch is a just incase they find the other switch and plug in the lighter (if they have one) or try to bypass it......

You should also put a hidden switch on your lights (headlights, turn signals, brake lights, etc.). Since most cars are stolen at night, what thief would want to drive a car that would attract the attention of the local authorities?
