Have some qts. Going to look at a 1985 944 near my base in Germany, it has 5spd, gold color, power windows, brakes, seats and sunroof--no air, has been zinced. DIN is WP0ZZZ94ZFN401945. Ad says US Spec, in talking to owner, he says it has a cat convertor and us glass, was made for us market but never shipped over, also engine and trans has been rebuilt..owner says no rust.

Qts, is it a US spec? by cat convertor or DIN?,
Is it expensive to have air installed?
What are common problems?
What would be a good price for a 100K miles 944?
Thanks
Mike

1. you can read the VIN to see if it's US spec or not.

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/4786/VINAnat.html

2. I don't know about the cost but it's a PITA. requires removal of the complete dash assm, mounting a condenser, hosing, mounting a compressor, remove the radiator, mount evaporator, wire it all up, put it all back together.

3. odometer breaking, sunroof gears stripping, rear hatch glass pulling out, misc electrical gremlins

4. $3000 - $4000 average $5500 max That's in Florida though.

3. thermostat switch, rubber centered clutch disc, DME relay, Ring & pinion in transmission, timing belt, there's more

It appears from the serial number that the 944 I was going to look at is for the rest of the world (ZZZ), AA2 is for a US car. Thanks for the website link.
