ROME (Reuters) - If you are thinking about speeding on Italian highways this year, think twice. You might find yourself being chased by a Lamborghini.
Italian police took possession Friday of a sleek, 500 horsepower, two-seater Lamborghini Gallardo, which can hit a top speed of 185 miles per hour. The sports car, painted in the police's distinctive blue and white colors, comes complete with a flashing blue light on the roof and will initially patrol the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway -- a road notorious in Italy for wild driving. The Lamborghini will also be used to transport human organs for emergency operations.

pfff, they'd never catch me in my civic dx.

So what are they gonna do when someone tries to run and they catch up to him? They'll be out of gas in no time.

And if they try to ram it off the road... I don't even wanna know how rich the body shop will get just by fixing this thing up.

Thats pretty sweet but not practical, Around here our Tax dollars are spent on Corvettes, Firebirds etc.. that are made into D.A.R.E. Police cars which are also showcased at the World of Wheels in Boston.. and the DARE officer rides around in them going from school to school to lecture kids about drugs.. Each town tries to out do everyone else so the DARE cars get more elaborate and expensive.

I'd still rather have a Skyline police car like they have in Japan.

That's bad ass! I think it would look better in black/white though. I wonder if Lamborghini donated the car or they purchased it.

In my opinion, I think that the Lancer EVOIIV would be the most practical car for a police car. Think about it, it meets all of their needs. It have sufficient acceleration, top speed, handling, it is rally inspired for offroad chases, it has four doors, and it would save them on gas :smokin:

Man, I'd love to see all the taxpayer rebellion if they bought a Lambo cop car over here.

Of course Commodores/Falcons/Vectras/Maxima's used by police over here aren't exactly the most stealthy things. Even the unmarked ones (They still use Steelies, LPG Stickers and base model's)

A Lambo cop car is a dopey idea. Lots of tax dollars to buy and run. A helicopter and police radios is the fastest of all, anyways.

I have wondered about the possibility of driving a look -alike unmarked cop car, if one might get pulled over less.

That really depends on the copter. Some of the ones used in Michigan can't go above 140. That lambo isn't even revved up at 140.

Sure, but most Autostradas are quite crowded with everything from Ferraris to the occasional Fiat 500 and Topolino. The traffic does not permit really high speed for any great length of time, not long enough to outrun a chopper, anyways.

Thats pretty friggin sweet and all, but what happens if they are tailing someone and all of a sudden that person just RAMS their car/truck into their car. First of all, that Car would friggin be destroyed if a truck rammed into it and second of all could you picture the costs to repair / maintain that car....Sure its cool as hell but definitely not practical

The police in London have recently started using silver BMW 5 Series and Mercedes C Class. I know some of other other areas use Imprezas well.
