Hey, so the 5sfe's suck right? Cuz everyones reccomendatoin is to swap it with a 3sgte. I have an auto tranny. What can i do?
Okay, say i get a nitrous kit or turbo... or any high hp gains for that matter, will i have to change the tranny cuz its only rated at a specific hp?
thanks.

Question summary:
1) do they suck? what can i do with 'em?
2) Need a new tranny with new horses??

thanks ppl

Some people don't like the 5sfe engine because they're they like people that take steroids, want quick results with little solid work, so their first advice is to swap for a REAR JAP. ENGINE! 3SGTE. Others like me just look at the engine and demand power from it by tuning it! The 5sfe started with 130hp and there are many aftermarket products for it and they're not needles in haystacks either because I plan to get 200hp or more out of mine.........think about it! I have a list off the stuff I need for now to pretty much get there.

but that engine is supposed to give you 200bhp the 5sfe only started with 130

wuts your point? most people that are into modding start with the 3sgte because it is a better base to start with less hastle... its not considered "lazy" its just smarter.... you would probably end up spending the same amount or more to get your 5sfe to make the same amount of power the 3sgte does stock that it would be to swap in a 3sgte...

MY POINT....(though it was painfully difficult to see) is that the engine dosen't suck, and if you spend time on it you can get alot more power out of it INSTEAD of just swaping to the 3SGTE.....which is quite alright if you have the money to spend on buying it and then spending some more boosting it, or if you have one just chillin in your back yard! But if you don't have one of thoes two options, then you can go ahead and tune the 5SFE that you already have! Everytime you get paid buy something else if you can afford it........That, my friend, was my point....... understand?

A 5sfe is an engine designation. The "5" indicates it is the 5th generation series "s" engine block.

The other letters are as follows:
G - twin cam
F - economical twin cam (cams closer to each other)
T - turbocharged
Z - supercharged
E - electronic fuel injection
L - lean combustion
C - emissions package or carburated (depending on year/model)
U - passes the Japanese emission regulations
B - twin carbs

Everything you ever wanted to know about ID numbers, but were afraid to ask:
