Whistling noise from intake???

My spyder has the following mods....1g BOV, Injen Intake, DP and Hi-Flow cat. If you are sitting still, or even moving, when you let off the gas there is a whistling noise coming from the intake. Sounds kind of like the factory BOV when the car was stock, except this noise is longer and not as high pitched. It only does it at certain rpm's, namely right around 2000. I cleaned it the other day and it sounded a little better but not much of a change at all. Any Ideas????
By the way...it didn't do this for the first year I had it.

Does the filter have a rip or hole in it?
RiceRocket18
05-14-2004, 09:14 AM
that sounds like a pretty damn big HOLE!! LOL.. maybe you just need a new filter. what kinda filter do you have. i know that K&N get filled up with dirt quick.

k&n are designed to use the "dirt" as part of the filtering media i dont have the site but look up k&n filters and read about them

so dirtier the better?
ashah000

If i get this right the dirter the more filtration, but then less flow

i heard the K&N has the best filtration while the HKS which is what i use has the best flow.

No....the last time I cleaned it I didn't see a rip or hole. It is only about 2 years old and I thought they were supposed to last for longer than that. It's the filter that comes with the Injen Intake (I don't know if it's made by K&N or not).

i'd say get a new filter... and i'm not sure if that HKS one your using Rocket is foam or not, if it is watch it!!! i just seen one that started to disinagrate cause it got a little moisture on it and the motor sucked the whole foam piece up into the head! wasnt pretty, good thing it was a honduh!!!

its probably a imitation k&n. is it like folded screens with red/gray crap in the middle?

It's this one

So RST...you think I should replace it? Shouldn't it last longer than that?

strange that it happened to you. the only time that something like that can happen is if the foam is SOOO old and SOOOOO soaked to be abled to be broken apart into little peices and sucked into the intake. most likely hose the entire filter with sprinkler might do it then run that bad boy up to 6000rpm. besides that.. i don't see how it can just do that.
in fact it's a pretty popular filter and works pretty well for most people. but yea.. thanks for the heads up.

Not to doubt you or anything....but I thought they were supposed to be cleanable so they would last longer. The factory ones are supposed to be replaced every 15,000 (I think). So other than slightly higher flow, what is the point of buying an aftermarket one if you have to replace it as much as the factory one. The factory ones even cost less??? Thanks!

those are "NONE" cleanable!!!!.. many people attemped to clean them just because they're foam. but if you read their product site carefully.. it specifically said that they're NON cleanable. ... you put that shit into the dish washer didn't you ! :chair: :cwm27: i know that ashah did :grinno: :loser: love ya ashah!
my last one lastest me through out 2 years and finally decided to replace them recently because they got sooo dirty.

well it didnt happen to me but i guy i know... it was pretty fucked up! i dont know how it happened but i have been skeptical about it ever since! so i tend to warn people...
i replace my filter so often cause i drive a lot... 30-35k a year and i store my car Nov - march! so an average of 50-60k miles on a filter is when mine starts to get nice and black!

Sorry for yelling....I got confused. I posted at the same time you did, Rocket. I was replying to RST's post about mine being cleanable and you were posting about the foam. You thought I was talking about yours.....OOPS!
But anyway, if K&N gives you a million mile warranty, why should I replace it. Granted it's not a genuine K&N but it should be the same concept...Right??

thats like saying that if blitz garauntees their bodykits will fit that some no name $150 kit from ebay should fit too "but it should be the same concept...Right??"

I am comparing Injen and K&N, not blitz and "no name junk". As far as I know Injen is not a "no name" company. They are both cleanable filters and I am just trying to figure out why I should replace a reusable filter.

ya replace that shizzle or if it is cleanable clean it

so get the k&n cleaner/oil kit. i would just put on a k&n because they're the best air filters IMO and they're made to be reuseable. just because the injen looks like a k&n doesnt mean its the same design/materials
