HIDs!

Okay, so I'm pretty sure I want to buy HIDs, but I'm still split on which bulbs to buy. I don't think I'm going to buy JDM black housing headlamps (the fake ones use different bulbs, the real ones cost $600) so now it is just a matter of whether to buy 9005 or 9006. I'd like to run them in the outer lense compartment (where the low-beams are normally) but I'm worried that the bulb may touch that hexagonal shaped plastic cover that goes over the low-beam bulbs (I've heard this can cause it to short, thus destroying your kit). But on the other hand, if I set it up as purely high-beams only, then it kind of sucks because I'd be spending $400 on something that no one would see except for a brief second before I switch them off.
I'm looking at the Philips 4100k kit because it's more white, I'll get a higher light output, and I won't have as much risk of being pulled over by the police.
On the other hand, the blue (6000k) looks really pimp. I'm just worried about the light output and risk of being pulled over.
Is it possible to set up your lights so when you hit the high beams, it switches off the low beams and turns on the high ones? That way I could run regular lights as low beams when I need light out put and run just the blue HIDs when I want to go for looks?
I'm also concerned that the HIDs will blind other drivers since the kit will be in a reflector housing.
Opinions on what I should do, where I should get the kit from, etc?
(I realize that aftermarket kits are probably illegal)

Don't buy aftermarket cheap H.I.D kits. Buy O.E.M bulbs, ballasts, and projector. You can get a set of Bi-zenon projectors(they have the high and low beam in one projector) for cheap. There is no better bling then having real oem hid color flicker(you know, when the headlights change blue, white, purple while they are coming at you.)You can't get that with a junk hid kit. All oem bulbs have a 4100k temp. More light output, more flicker, and the pimpfactor. You can buy all used shit for less then 400-600 bucks!!! Nothing beats oem H.I.D's. Do you live in CA? i've heard that installing HID into a non-factory HID car is illegal now in CA. Don't know if it's true. I also don't know if cops are actually enforcing this law. How often do you see a cop write up a jay walker? or people who litter?
If you get HID, I would aim it lower so you won't blind others and attract cops even more. And try to drive normal, so you won't give them another reason to pull you over.
Also, some cops don't even know about cars, and can't tell if HID are installed.

I beleive jajimo lives in oregon, so he won't have to worry as much as he would otherwise, as long as he keeps the color temp down, he should be okay with HIDs.
Also, I am glad to see you are concerned with other drivers jajimo. One of the reasons it is illegel in some areas is just that, it reflects too much in the housings not made for it, etc...and can blind other drivers. Jajimo, are your low beams reflective and clear housed too, or just the high beams?

This is absolutely true. I live in CA, and know a few people esp. in the LA area that have gotten popped for having HID lights. Just not worth the hassle in my opinion. One of my buddies has gotten pulled over 3 times for his HID's (didn't get a ticket in any of them though) and finally took out the HID's and went back to running halogen bulbs, like I said, not worth the hassle if the cops in your area are anal about it.

This is nothing agains HIDs, I love them just as much as anyone else that's into the look, but the repeated posting of the SAME thing multiple times is against the user policy of this message board.
