gunk on underside of doors... can't be good.

So I found a nice eclipse spyder (2g) today. needs some work... The weirdest thing was the doors...

Both sides it looks like a rust resistant spray coat had been sprayed on the inside (like between the exterior and interior panel) of the doors or something. The passenger side door was dripping a bit of this sticky goo on the trim. The drivers side had it a bit and tape over the bottom of the door (duct tape) I assume this was to block the drippage.

I talked to the dealer and he said he would take care of the tape. He said the dripping goo was actually factory stuff and had been a problem with most cars 96-99. He told me it was basically melted weatherstripping. I highly doubt that however. So do you all think that they trying to cover something else up? Or is this really a legit problem with them?

it is a goo that holds a peice of plastic cover to the inside of the doors between the metal door and the inside cover. it is a sticky stuff and if hot enough i suppose it would run, but i live in cali where the temp is 100+ in the summer and i have never had the problem... just make sure the dealer cleans it up really good...

thanks now to talk them down in price. It's amazing what dealers consider "excellent condition" for the car they are selling you. And the car you are trading them is always "good" ^^

well until they go to sell your car, then is excelent too, and suddenly you were a elderly lady that drove only on the highway... lmao

lol I know ^^. He was 2k over the "Excellent" value of blue book. And it needed body work, the doors fixed, new battery (old one had overflowed), and a hell of alot of cleaning.

I offered him over the blue book value too and got turned down. I was being generous. So I'm waiting to see if he comes back now.

If not I just keep looking around no big deal.
