pinion seals

I have a 2000 Blazer. I had to have the front and rear pinion seals replaced. Also the rear yoke had to be replaced because it was scored. I only have 39000 miles on this truck. These problems were found when I had it checked for a power steering leak. The front shaft seal needed to be replaced on the power steering pump. Are these common problems on these trucks?
