The Eclipse and EVO both use the 4G63T (except it's newer and better on the EVO), they have the same potential and that is the potential to make alot of horsepower. The first 10 second EVO8 in the USA was actually tuned by a DSM company (Turbo Trix).

Isnt the Eclipse GT-S a 6cylinder? The Evo is 4. Wat would have the more hp? Eclipse Gt-S Turbo or Evo Turbo?

the GT-S is from the 2000 and up model eclipse....I does NOT have the 4g63 engine which is a 4 cylinder turbo...the motor in the GT-S is a NON turbo 6 cylinder...power wise...the 6 cylinder might have more power potential...but the body also wieghs alot more than the EVO...also the eclipse in not awd...the EVO is...so the two cars are not even comparable...the new model eclipse is garbage..looks bad...drives even worse..
P.S. Just to clarify the 4 cylinder 4g63 engine is in the 1991 to 1999 Turbo model eclipses which is not the same as the EVO 8 engines....which are the same engine model code...however..it has 271 hp...oppose to the eclipse model engine which is 210

I'm interested in knowing exactly whats different between the turbo 2G DSM engines and the EVO 8. I mean how different are the newer 4g63's from the older ones?
I think personally most of the power difference is probably just related to the turbo setup. Bigger tubo setup = more power. But of course I dunno how much more superior the engine itself is and thats whats interesting to know. :)

What you stated is pretty much the major differences between the Eclipse Turbos and EVO turbos, think of the Eclipse as a de-tuned version of the EVO model, sort of like the WRX and the Euro and Japanese model WRX STIs. You see the EVO and Eclipse from 1991 to 1999 used the same engine, with the changes mentioned that gave the EVO more power. The EVO and Eclipse began the same model year, but for some reason Mitsubishi felt that the EVO would not sell in the United States and instead created and sold us the Eclipse which used a de-tuned version of the EVO. Think about, the Eclipse is only sold in the United States, so in a way the Eclipse and EVO are very much related. Yet in 1999 the turbo model Eclipses went out of production, and we got this N/A version Eclipse, but the 4G63T never did go out of production, it remained in the EVO and continued to be improved upon with newer EVO models (the same thing would have happend if the Eclipse turbos remained). So in reality, when the EVO went on sale in the United States what you were seeing was actually the same 4G63T engine that was in the Eclipse and previous EVO models, just improved with time as most engines improve. Look at like this, let's say for some reason the Camaro which uses the LS1 engine was sold in the United States and the Corvette which uses the LS1 engine also was sold only in Australia and Europe, but not the USA. But the Camaro went out of production, and the Corvette remained but still sold only in Australia and Europe. Then in 2003 GM decides to sell the Corvette in the USA and now all the sudden we see an updated version of the LS1 engine which makes 350HP and 405HP. Do you see what I am saying, the engine in the EVO8 is really just the newest version of the 4G63T that was de-tuned in the Eclipse. Just because the Eclipse went out of production doesn't mean the 4G63T did. I guess another way to look at it, is that the first EVO to hit the 10s was tuned by a DSM shop and people were shocked, they shouldn't be, because pretty much if you think about the DSM shops have been working with 4G63T for years in the de-tuned Eclipse, and now they get there hands on the newest version and it's not de-tuned, they should do magic and they did with the first EVO to hit the 10s, and guess what that EVO isn't even close to being finished modified, it basically is between 1/2 and 2/3 done and they already hit the 10s on one freaking pass (no Nos and street tires).

yes the Eclipse GT-S is 6-Cylinder
Well it all depends on how fixed up it is, I mean if it is laying down like 500WHP compared to an EVO with 350WHP then yeah it would beat it, but you'd have to look far and hard to find in 6-Cylinder Eclipse making 500WHP. Believe me modifying the EVO is much easier than modifying a Eclipse GT-S. There are many EVOs in the 12s and 11s, and there doing this with very few mods, while to get an Eclipse GT-S to same spot would take alot more money. Say you modify an Eclipse GT-S and slap on a turbo and run a 13.5 Second 1/4 mile time which is almost two seconds off the stock time, that still isn't even faster than the stock EVOs, which have been running 13.2-13.5 Second 1/4 Mile times.

Hey hey hey...let's not forget... The wieght of the two cars...aswell as the engines...the 6 cylinder also wieghs more...ALSO the eclipse is not AWD like the EVO....so absolutely maybe...maybe the eclipse could beat an EVO but it would take a ridiculous amount of money

Oo_skyline_oO Wich eclipse are you talking about... 3rd gen? Because 1st and 2nd gens have the gsx and tsi and they are Awd... Stock for stock the evo would win... with a big 16g (i think whats in an evo) they would be pretty close to even. Price for a big 16 g is around 300-600 depending where you get it. If your talking about the 6 cyl. Your right the evo would spank it and to have a comparable car it would need a ridiculous amount of money...

One last thing that no one mentioned but i think is noteworthy is that the 4g63 engine in the lancer and the eclipse DSM is the same, however, after the evo3 the 4g63 that went into the lancers became a mirror image of the USDM 4g63 so all the lancers after evo 3 had their enginebay looking exactly like the eclipse except backwards. This is why if an eclipse owner blows his engine he cant swap in a JDM motor from any evo after evo 3, which is also why none of the parts are interchangeable...kinda sucks
