smoke coming from underneath

Hi, when I was driving my 99 blazer on the highway the other day i started to smell a sort of burning smell coming from the car, so i turned off the road and tried to locate the smell and it looked like it was coming from underneath the drivers seat in the undercarriage, possibly from the catalytic converter. I was just wondering if this is a major problem, because i need to drive it 2 and half hours home from school to get it fixed. thanks for your time

p.s. blazer has 98,000 on it and has 4wd 2 door

Have you checked your tranny for fluid overflow? I might be wrong, but I think the 99 tranny's came with a fluid overflow vent on the top of the pan. If they did come with this overflow, its possible that the fluid is spraying out onto your exhaust...

Can someone else confirm this?

actually the vent is on top of the transmission with a hose coming out of it
