Bose System replace.....

I own a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer s-10 with a factory Bose system. My question is I want to replace the head unit in the vehicle because I want to get a head unit that I can 1) hook an iPod to and 2) have a wireless remote. My question is, I have been told that I can't just replace the head unit, and if I was to replace the head unit I would have to start all over with new speakers as well. Is this completely true or is the car audio store just feeding me a line. And if I were to install a new head unit, would the Bose factory amp have to be disconnected? Any thoughts and input would be very helpful.

You would have to replace the speakers and bypass the amp after you replace the head unit. It is a pain in the ass to do.

It's not that bad if you know what you are doing. There are a few ways to get around it. Yes, it is a pain compared to non-BOSE but still very doable. You can get something like this http://www.pie.net/sec11sb11.htm or manually bypass it yourself. I would suggest using the above plus the normal wiring harness adaptor most GM cars have.
