RSX-S or SE-R Spec V

Sorry guys. I am a newbie with a lot of questions. I want to get a new car as a daily beater, but I want it to have some cojones. Is the RSX Type S worth the extra bling over a spec V?

in my opinion..no! for performance, the Spec-V is better and cheaper! you can also fit more peoploe in the car easier! the engine is reliable! but... the RSX does look better, that the only thing. other than that, the SE-R owns!

I agree with Nacho. The SE-R Spec V is more fuel efficient as well, due to the low end torque, and there's no need to rev up the engine as much. Sure the RSX-S has more horsepower but SE-R has plenty of torque to make up for it. 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times are very similar between the two cars. That's my opinion and it comes from experience as the proud owner of a Spec V.

The RSX is faster, more "refined", has MUCH more potential, and comes with a more reliable engine (compared to the earlier qr25's, the more recent ones haven't been out long enough to see).
The tradeoff is it's more expensive, you have to decide if these advantages make up for the price difference for yourself.

You could buy the Spec V and save yourself $5,000 and use that money to add mods to make it even faster than the RSX-S. You'll probably still have some money left over after that.

But an RSX with a hondata and cai will beat a spec with every bolt on available, in fact the only way to beat one with a spec would be to go FI or N2O, not even a fully bolted/cammed spec on slicks could keep up with one.

How fast is a RSX with the Hondata and CAI in the 1/4...Unforts my car(as im sure you know... :) ) doesnt gain much through bolt ons cause the motors pretty much maxed and its really made for a turbo set up but im under the impression the 2.5 responds better bolt ons...Ive got a video of a stock Spec V racing a RSX-S with an intake (so the video says) and the Sentra beats him one race and is neck to neck the next

An RSX-S with a hondata and CAI is in the very low 14's, like 14.1 to 14.2. Add a header or exhaust and it's in the 13's. The spec is lucky to get into the 14's at all with i/h/e, yes it's possible but very few people can actually do it, and do you know how hard it is to get a spec into the 13's? The 2.5 doesn't respond NEARLY as well as the RSX-S to bolt-ons.

i heard you need flywheel and shit to make the SE-R fast. of course i/h/e wont bring you down a number! ill still take the SE-R over the RSX. well maybe, if it has brembo brakes and shit:)

I'm not talking about i/h/e bringing you down a full second, I'm talking about i/h/e not even bringing you down less than a half a second. Most people hit about a 15.4 in a stock spec, do you know how many have hit 14's with just i/h/e? Very very few

Every SE-R will benefit almost a full second from a simple clutch/flywheel combo. Get a hard-ass ACT clutch and a flywheel that weighs less than 9lbs and it'll run mid-14's no problem. It won't be too hard from there to hit low 14's.

thats what i ment:) ive heard that the spec looses alot of power on the journey to the wheels, and all this cause of the heavy flywheel. might want to try that out...

someone please link me to some proof of this mid-14s with flywheel crap....
i would get a spec over a type-s personally. It handles better and torque makes for more fun imo. stock, the spec gets a type-s off the line everytime then gets passed up at third gear.
rsx has more mod-potential, at least until an ECU comes out for the SER.
RSX: nice interior, good top end, good gearbox, hondata
Spec-v: torque, LSD

actually, a lot of specs are into the 14's w/ I/H/E. It depends on the altitude obviously. It's a very close call between the 2 nonetheless.

AGREEEDDDD.. I was gonna say that about the ECU.. can't wait till they crack it!!
Oh, add one more to that list for the RSX: NO CENTER CONSOLE! SHEESH
you're paying $23,000 for a BASE model and don't even get a freakin center console... wow.. If you ask me, that's a BEAUTIFUL bang for the buck... HA!! Just my :2cents:

No such thing as a base model type-s. Its either a rsx or a rsx type-s. No base model. And yes it does have a center consel. Personally im a honda person, but id choose the spec v because i think its a better power and value for a reasonable price.

I personally think the rsx type-s is overpriced. I talked down the dealer to 17,500 from 19.000 On my black specV. And if you wait lil bit there will be turbo available and with the $$ you save from buying specV instead of rsx type-s you put turbo in and you'll beat any rsx....

No, I mean't without all the options (i.e. sunroof, etc...). That's what I meant when I said base model. Sorry for the confusion.
Oh, and like BeigeMaxima said, I agree on the RSX's overprice issue. But hey, what can you do, you're buying the name... Acura.

and to add to that, I'm not saying I dislike Nissan or Infinity, because I truly do love my spec, the spec runs under Nissans name, but I'm sure if it ran under Infinity's name, it would be around the RSX's price, MAYBE a lil lower.
And if the RSX was under Hondas name, it would be lower too... so in essence, the RSX would still be an RSX if it were under Hondas name, and the Spec would still be a spec if it were under Infinity's name, you're just paying for the name.

Btw: Hondas are OVERPRICED my specV cost me same as honda civic sedan ex would cost me...

I really dont think you do know what you mean. ALL RSX's come with sunroofs standard!!
Since you dont know what your talking about here are all of the features that cam STANDARD per each model:
http://acura.com/models/model_specs_index.asp?module=rsx
Overall i believe they pretty much are the same car. Just the rsx got bagged in a luxury line(acura) and the sentra ser specv got bagged as a entry level make(nissan)

Bro, I'm talkin about in general... Damn, I don't know why people somehow ALWAYS have to pick on the nitty gritty shit... IN GENERALLLL, the GENERAL options. Hold on, wait, let me clarify for the people that must have everything so detailed and specific and don't know how to generalize. Ok, once again, the GENERAL options that DON'T come in the RSX. Notice how I said ETC... after i said sunroof. That etc actually MEANS something, you know. It's not just there for looks.

Oh and by the way, since YOU don't know what you're talkin about, I think you just need to go back and check that web site again, and,
1. You'll see that there is no center console from the picture. Click on "interior photos" and look at the second picture after it loads up.
http://www.acura.com/models/model_gallery_index.asp?module=rsx
2. I know what I'm talkin about because some guy on clubrsx.com wanted to buy an rsx and then he found out there was no center console.
3. Why the hell do the sell armrests for them if they already come with center consoles?
http://store.clubrsx.com/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=IAA
Anyways, you're talkin about the FRONT console... I'm talkin about the center console, "armrest" if you will.

Now isnt this a center consol? The shifter isnt on the floor, and it has room for storage and cupholders. I think its a center consol.

You're just NEVER gonna get out of your specifics and generalize are you? Forget it, it's a lost cause. I'm not gonna argue with someone who always has to get into the specifics. Learn to generalize bro... look OUTSIDE the box.

ya i had the same problem as you over chosing between the two the only way i can see why it would be worth it is it has more mods so if you want something with lots of potential your better off but if not then spec v is much better off plus the spec v is going to be coming out with the ecu and probably other stuff so if you can wait alittle while spec v is just plain better
