B18c5 question need some input...

Ok ive been reading some forums about alot of swaps lately and from what im getting, the B20, or the LS/VTEC built up piece by piece would be able to take a B18c5, but the thing I was wondering is how come people dont just get the b18c5 swap and start to trade out things such as lighter pistons, that custom drag turbo kit for swapped b18c5's into civics, new cams, you know the works, so im I thinking the wrong wa or has just no one thought of that? Somebody lemme know, and I already know that someones prolly gunna say ot takes money and not everyones rich, but then again all it really takes is time for someone who makes the average amount of money. So someone say something to this...

okay well swapping out the pistons and cams on a B18c5 would be pointless because that is what makes that motor better than the rest of the B series...you take away teh compression and trade out acms and you might as well have used a B18c1 and for much less ! Also A ls/vtec and or a B20 swap in no way will outrun a B18c5 unless it is boosted, so whereever you heard that it is not true.! and most generally the only reason to ever build up an LS/Vtec or a B20 is for a turbo application ! the B18c5 is used for an all motor application and to score cool points even for having it. and to turbo a B18c5 is idiotic due to teh fact the compression is so high on that engine that boost will destroy it, no questions asked..there have been many " stupid rich kids " that have attempted this not knowing anythnig and have killed the C5..please dont be one of theese people, its a great engine and deserves much better. basically whatever youve been reading is wrong or youve misconstrued it.... B18c5 leave it alone , Ls/Vtec and B20 are for build up turbo applications

Ok but the thing is im using it as a daily driven vehicle but I aslso want it to be pretty fast, and some people have said that if you build up the Ls/Vtec then you r more likely to have internal problems. And I was wondering what engine would you be able to get the most whp out of. The Ls/Vtec or the C5?

if you never plan on running boost thru it and you got money to burn than the C5 is your optimal choice....if you plan on running boost or nos at some point then the B18B or an LS/VTEC is gonna be your optimal choice..and if done properly you wont have internal probloms with the build ups..there not as reliable as other engines because thier built up and running boost and other scenarios..anything that has a heavy tune with boost is gonna be less reliable than a N/A engine..thats common sence... and to ask which one you will get the most whp is based apon my last statement...a B18B or an LS/Vtec will give you more whp IF it is boosted, other wise the C5 will give you more whp..sitting at 200

True, but I was thinking to make things simple, if I were to just buy a 94-96 Integ Gsr, and add a turbo would I have ne problems or is the compression too high for that one too? And I seriously need someone to tell me where the short shifter goes too, because im buying one soon and I dont have the swap yet but I dont wanna waste money...

10:1 is not too high for a turbo. A 10:1 motor will spool the turbo faster than a 9:1 motor, make more power per pound of boost, and have more off-boost power than a 9:1 motor. If you spend a bit of money for a good tuning device (hondata) then a GSR or ITR motor is better to boost. Besides, with a GSR or ITR you get tighter gearing for faster acceleration over the LS, so it's a win-win situation.

true, but boosting an ITR is uncalled for...running a few psi thru a b18c1 gsr isnt bad..no probloms with that..but running any boost no matter what the tune on an itr is just not logical...thr compression is far to high to boost safely and your taking far to big of a gamble ...the ITR is an awsome all motor application...and all motor alone

and its a short SHIFTER where do you think it goes !

The difference between the GSR and the ITR is .6:1. People have boosted the S2K on pump gas fine, and boosting an ITR on pump gas is fine with a good tune. The horror stories you hear of people detonating hard on ITR motors are the people that try to run FMU's, an SAFC, or an SMC on their motor instead of proper fuel management.

true..but fact remains that when it comes to boost and compression every bit counts, and anything GSR and above is just something to be that much more cautious with..especaily when you consider alot of people dont know what we know and they end up making huge mistakes when they try doing somethin like boosting these High Compression engines due to the ammount of componants involved with a sure-fire tune.

Only reason I keep askin about the shirt shifter is because someone said sumthin bout the shifter connecting to the chassis, and I was confused cuz that didnt make sense so I juss asked other people
