i heard you can get up to 20 HP from just a maxspeed muffler. i don't see how this could be true.. anyone know anything about this?
and if anyone has a titanium tip muffler tell me how you like it.

I strongly doubt it and here's why:

1) Mufflers don't provide gains (or if they do its minimal) over stock exhausts, only exhaust systems provide gain.

2) 20HP is a manufacturer claim and manufacturers are almost always exaggerated.

3) Exhausts (not mufflers) for the RSX get from 1-7 whp.

Concerning 20hp muffler...HAHAHAHA!

Borla, Magnaflow, Greddy Evo II and the Veilside Teardrop are good exhausts

As an exhaust, Comptech, HKS HiPower (2nd best sounding), Mugen, GReddy, Borla, Magnaflow, Buddy Club, 5Zigen and Fujistubo (by FAR the nicest sounding RSX exhaust). Those are all nice sounding ones because exhausts are only realy good for looks and sounds.

As far as cost goes, Magnaflow, GReddy, 5Zigen and probably Comptech.

yea i would go with either greddy or magnaflow unless you can afford a high dallar exhaust.

:iagree:

Yepper. A muffler alone is not going to do much for HP. I'm amazed they claim 20HP!

You usually need to get the whole exhaust system re-done from header to tailpipe to see nice results. Of course be wary of the race headers since they are not street legal and you wouldn't be able to drive your car around everyday.

So either they must have had the muffler on a "nice" exhaust system to get 20HP or they are just blowing smoke!

Crazy, I respectfully disagree with your statement about exhausts being only good for looks and sounds. In my opinion, and this is just an opinion, I think that good flow of exhaust can create additional HP which can add better performance to your vehicle if done correctly from header to exhaust tip.

But I do agree somewhat with the looks/noise aspect when it comes to people that just put on these mods on their cars for those reasons alone. The people that do that are actually not getting much if any benefits in HP.

I see what you're saying, but the thing is on the RSX (unless you are driving a heavily modded car) all exhausts get around 5 whp max. One the Teg's and Civics they got better gains, but thats because the stock header and exhaust on the RSX is very good. Plus, most exhausts have the same gains - usually a 1 or 2 hp or tq difference, so therefore the sound, looks, price, and for some people brand are the factors for an RSX exhaust.

Hmm, thanks for enlightening me. I knew that the TypeS had much larger exhaust pipes than any other cars I've owned but I was unaware that they were already pretty good.

I don't know much about all the aftermarket exhaust systems that are out there, but I thought some would provide better performance than stock. And if they only provide a 5whp difference than stock, then I would have to agree with you.

But in my opinion, that would be a waste of $$ for just looks and sound! It could be better spent on a hondata flash which gives you a ton of gains.

I agree with the Canadian...the RSX is well engineered to start...

:D

Yeah, I think a Hondata and an Intake will give better gains and sound too:thumbsup:
