Humming sound

ok my suburban has a humming sound coming from the engine when started and when i accelerate the humming gets louder as it goes once i release the gas it slows down and i did notice that my battery gauge is running around 11 and 12 a little low than normal dont know if it is causing the humming sound or alternator going bad any help would be appreciate or ideas of what it can be thanks
