my 93 chev silverado sputters and almost stalls when i give it gas when the engine is cold. its only seems to do it before its at operating temperature. i've already changed the fuel filter, and that doesn't seem to work. I also have this black mucky tar on the bottom of my tail pipes. I don't know if they're related. Can anyone help...PLEASE???

need more info, always at start up, after sitting for short time, only when at cold start up ,is there any smoke from exhuast on start up, did you pull a plug, is it black and powdery, black and sticky, wet with fuel. could be running rich, could be oil fouling from bad valve seals. is the engine light on, need details.

it's only at cold start up. After its been running for about 10 minutes, it doesnt do it anymore at all. I havent noticed any exhaust on start up and the engine light is not on.

I've tried pouring sea foam in there a few times thinking it was the fuel injector, but that didn't seem to help at all either.

Any ideas?

My old 94 used to sputter really REALLY bad when it was cold. Spit out black smoke though! Turned out to be the EGR solenoid. Not the actual valve, but the part that has a electric plug and vacum hose hooked to it going to the EGR valve. It was shot and was causing a vacum leak, and untill the engine temp is up, the ODB1 computer doesnt kick in and correct the problem. you might try having that solenoid checked out.
