How can I get my freeze plug out without taking out the engine? It is the one above the starter and muffler, I took out the starter, and am having trouble getting to it, is there an easy tool to break it out with? :2cents: :2cents:

if you can get a screwdriver against it, try to hit the bottom inward, so it will rotate out at the top, grab it with a pair of channel locks and pull the sucker out.

you mean bend it from the side inward?

When I worked at the engine shop I just hammered a screwdriver into the top or bottom and pryed it off.
If you bend it inward though it should come loose and be able to pop out.

From My understanding is that the plug is there so if you have too much water in your coolant in the winter and it freezes the freeze plug will pop out so you don't crack your block.

yeah kinda sorta they are also just kinda casting holes, from making the block, they just happen to serve the second pourpose. or at least thats how they were found out the first time, then they were designed into the block as such.
