3,000 Mercs here may be hit in recall for brake fault MORE than 3,000 fairly new Mercedes-Benzes in Singapore may be affected by a worldwide recall that aims to fix a fault in the car's high-tech braking system.
DaimlerChrysler said it was recalling 680,000 cars fitted with Sensotronic Brake Control, an electronic system that amplifies the vehicles' braking power and response in emergencies.

The recall applies to E-class sedans built after March 2002, its stationwagon variant built after March last year, and the high-end SL sports car made after October 2001.
According to wire reports on Tuesday, the manufacturer is asking owners of the vehicles to visit their local service centres for a precautionary check of the braking system.
The company said it was aware of a 'very small number' of complaints, but added that the brakes would not fail because of the system's back-up hydraulic function.
Company spokesman Norbert Giesen was quoted by AP as saying that the safety campaign affects about 680,000 vehicles worldwide, 225,000 of them in Germany.
In Singapore, Mercedes-Benz dealer Cycle & Carriage said it has yet to receive confirmation from the factory on the exact number of cars affected here.
