What's your favourite car after the McLarenF1??

Mine is the Ferrari F50GT!
Ass kick'n devil car :evillol: , looks like driving a monster where nothing quite matches up.
It seems almost as difficult to drive as it is taming a wild stallion.
But once you get the hang of it....VROOOOOOOOOOMMMM!

IIIHAHHH!!! :lol2:

Actually this car makes our dear beloved McLaren sweat bigtime on the track! :banghead:

Can I choose: McLaren F1 LM ??

Hmmm - you made a good choice with the F50 GT. I'm trying to think here...

I pretty much like all the other recent contenders to the F1s throne equally - Enzo, Carrera GT, Zonda, Koenigsegg, etc...

I'll go ahead and make my second favorite car the Light Car Company Rocket because it probably offers the most incredible driving experience. That Gordon Murray really knew what he was doing, ya know. ;)

I so wish that someone made a small scale (affordable) diecast of it.

the F50 GT1 is a cool car, but it isnt street-legal. after the F1, i would have to say the Mosler MT900S Photon. its the definition of racecar for the road.

my second favorite car for on the road is definately the ferrari 250 SWB, in black. The true meaning of the word "gran turismo" is defined in that car, it is the most beautiful coupe ever. (i define a mclaren as a racer, not a coupe)

Hello,

The F50 GT is not streetlegal but it exists a solution :
a F50 with a motor at GT specs and this one drives often in Monaco :)
seen at Supercar Rally 2001 !

Kick ass car !

I know the F50GT(1) is not street legal, there was only three ever build and had it not been for strong customer demand only one as been buildt.

It's "prototype look" is so brutal!
I think it's the coolest Ferrari of all time.

If I had a F50 I would have went to Ferrari and cryed untill they've rebuilt the exterior like the GT1, and maybe souped it up a little in the same turn :iceslolan

This car is #003. There is no list price, but the car had been sold in Australia for 1.3 mil dollars (Australian or USD?)

The first owner of car #001 was Art Zafiropoulo in San Francisco and used to show it in Ferrari events. THe first owner of car #002 was someone named Mr. Okamoto in Japan.

Don't cry. AFAIK, Art Z. still owns the car. It was crashed on the track by a pro driver. Ferrari couldn't be bothered to race the car, so at least it was being used.

It was sent back to the factory after the crash and should have been repaired a while ago.

Oh yeah, my second favorite car to all of the F1 variants is a 962.

Chassis #01 is/was being fully repaired after that off track incident. It actually happened with a very good driver (unnamed) at the wheel, but he got caught out on cold tires and spun the car off the track. I'm sure he felt really great about that... ;) Art, the owner, would frequently allow others to experience the car on track and it was certainly in the hands of a capable driver from what I have heard. It's a shame it happened, but it's only a car and for some ridiculous amount of money it can (and will) be repaired.

I have some great photos of chassis #03 somewhere around here. I'll send them your way Thorst. Chassis #03 was originally owned by an American named Jim Spiro (he has a black F50 too) before it went to Australia. Some may recall the article in Forza magazine on the F50 GT when he was still the owner.

Chassis #02 does belong to a Mr Okamoto, the same Shin Okamoto who owns a white McLaren F1. :bigthumb: I think I'd fall over if I ever saw those two cars in the same place.

Peloton25
05-13-2004, 03:41 PM
Yeah sure. Rather than email them all around since they are kind of big, I'll actually put them in your SC.net forum and link them back to this thread with clickable thumbnails for anyone who wants them. You may actually have the shots already as they were originally posted on SC.net by someone from Australia.

As for that Japanese owner, I'm about 99.5% positive that he's the owner given that there was that small photo of the corner of the car taken inside his collection of Ferraris. It's a shame the people who were there only had eyes for Ferraris - you would think any car enthusiast with a camera wouldn't pass up an opportunity to take photos of an F1. :screwy: I also remember running a web translator on a different japanese site that led me to believe he was the owner as well. Couple that with the location info that tvrfreak mentioned once - Mt. Rokko I think it was - which is where Mr Okamoto's collection is stored and it becomes fairly convincing. No clue which white F1 it was - #031 and #053 appear to be the two possibilities given the chassis history list.

BTW Peloton, I believe the Mr. Okamoto that owns #002 is Mr. Yoshikuni Okamoto. Perhaps he and Shin Okamoto are related, or maybe Shin is short for Yoshikuni.

Peloton25

Here's most of the info you'll be able to find on the web about F50 GT:

http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/summary/SN.F50.GT.htm

http://www.ferraris-online.com/Articles/SCM_0003.html

I also found this piece of info:

"The completed F50 GTs were sold by the factory under the condition that they were never to be raced by their new owners."

I know the "destroyed by court order" story is accurate, but I can't seem to find the details. I wonder if Ferrari was the one that ordered that to occur and Michelotto was resistant to do so? I can't imagine anyone else besides an F50 GT owner or Ferrari themselves having an interest in having those remaining chassis' destroyed and I wouldn't image an owner would have enough reason to create that judgement.

BTW Malka - you can use the "Edit/Delete" button on the lower right corner of your post to edit and add extra info rather than making multiple consecutive posts. I believe that Shin is short for Yoshikuni or is possibly a nickname of sorts.

The auction was in the USA - RM Auctions in Scottsdale, AZ - so my strong belief is that the price was USD and not AUD.

That price in Australian dollars would be rather cheap for an F50 GT, don't you agree. :D I actually think it's a little low for USD as well, but in 2000 the market for specialty cars was just beginning to build up again.

Are you referring to the video from Pulp racing taken at California Speedway? In that video, the F50 GT was behind the F40 and never passed it.

Or do you have a different video? Is there any chance you could post it?

A picture of F50GT and McLaren F1 would be a KILLER :iceslolan

You arrange the meeting and I'll be there to take the pictures. ;)

EDIT: I found more info on the F50 GTs:

Dellara built five tubs, three were assembled and completed by Michelotto. Ferrari canceled the program when they learned that Porsche had circumvented the FIA's rules governing the construction of the race version vs production version. Simply put; Ferrari's converted race car was never going to be a serious opposition to Porsches purpose built race car. Trust me, I have had examples of both and raced / driven against each on the track.

001 went to Art.

002 went to Okamoto.

003 went to Spiro and then our auction company sold it to Peter Floyd.

It would be pure magic for the two remaining tubs to be completed as finished cars. Two years ago, Ferrari was forced in a lawsuit to destroy both remaining tubs. Details of which I am not at liberty to discuss.

Sufice to say the F50GT program is long over.

So I guess it was not Ferrari who had the remaining tubs destroyed. That leaves me wondering who initiated it and why it happened?? It also seems to dispute that there would have ever been a 6th tub built.

That info was posted in a thread on FerrariChat.com - if you click on this link you can read it for yourself. There are several posts in the thread from very knowledgeable people. Understand that their old message board had posts start at the bottom and newer replies on top so it reads backwards. :screwy:

http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/306072.html?1062042282

There's also a thread linked from that one which identifies the driver who wrecked F50 GT #001 as "Porsche factory driver Johannes Von Overbeck. He was one of the drivers of the Racers Group Porsche that won at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. He fractured a couple of ribs and a leg." :(

The tubs were destroyed becuase when ferrari sold 001 they said there wouldn't be another, then 002 came, and 003. The owners sued ferrari for a contract breach or something like that. Ferrari were then forced to destroy them
