Changing spark plugs

HELP. I think I screwed up big time. Trying to change spark plugs, when I attempted to remove the coils, after disconnecting and unscrewing, the top came off but the rest is still stuck (tubular part). I changed 2 ok, but pulled the tops off two and don't want to fool with the last 2 for fear of screwing up again. How can I get the rest of the things (bottoms) out?

twist twist twist and pull at the same time. They are two pieces.

The "tube" part will snap back onto the coil. You will have to dig/yank the tube out of the spark plug tower with a long pair of needle nose pliers, a set of picks or something similar. The tubes kind of get cooked into place with age. Put a little dab of plug boot grease in them so they'll come off easy next time.

What else should I change with my spark plugs?
My 2000 v6 has 54k miles on it...should I even change the plugs?

I'm currently at 50k on my 2000 and it is about time to change the plugs so they do not seeze into the block.

Everything worked ok. Thanks. I was really worried there for a while. 106k miles before I finally changed the plugs, easy other than the coils coming apart.

What brand of plugs did you pull out?

Pulled out Champions, but replaced with NGK.

I pulled Champions out of my '97 and replaced with Autolites. The Champions went 120K without any problems!

I just cross-referenced your FAQ and see that the Denso K16PR-P11 are essentially the only option. Thanks for compiling all that useful information!

Another question:
I've never done a plug job before, is it necessary to adjust the gap on the new plugs before installation? Also, are the K16PR-P11's the same as the Iridium IK16's? Where's a good place to buy them? Thanks!

yup, you need to regap them. They bang around in the box when they are shipped so it is always a good idea to regap them.
