loss of power

ok i was on my way out to the speedway the other weekend for a car show and when i almost got there my car felt like it lost some power and it started sounding kinda bubbly. http://www.transamcountry.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif i have also noticed that i'm using about twice as much gas as normal since this happened and seeing as how 93 octane is now 2 dollars a gallon http://www.transamcountry.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif i really would like to fix this problem. this problem is not constant either it is a little bit intermittent but most of the time it does what i described above. if anyone has any insight on this please let me know. all info appreciated.

Give more info about your vehicle. Year, engine, etc?

If you are using twice as much gas then you are probably running rich all the time.

When was the last time the spark plugs/wires been replaced?

If they are new probably you have a failing Ignition module. Don't forget to change the fuel filter if they have not been replaced in a long time.

When that loose of power happened, were you on steep hill, flat road?

its a 78 trans am with a 400 block and a carter 4bbl carb. the spark plugs are new and the wires have been checked recently. the spark is good on all the wires too, i checked that when i replaced the plugs about 1 1/2 months ago. the area was kinda hilly when this happened but the intermittent power loss is an all the time thing now, flat road or hills.

well the carb is rebuilt and back on the car. that's the good news. the bad news is i still have the same problems. i was speaking with a friends dad and i noticed a new thing that if i'm turning left kinda fast so that the car leans pretty good then the engine smooths back out and runs good but as soon as the car goes back level or on right turns the engine looses power again and gets the kinda bubbly sound back. anyways my friends dad said that this sounds like i might be getting vapor lock in my fuel lines. the only way he knows of fixing this is to get about 4 wood clothes pins and put then on the fuel line. somehow this fixes the problem but if this is the problem then i would like to find a more attractive way of fixing it if at all possible.
