I'm working on an 84 with the 2.5 and I need help from sombody finding a metal timing gear. I want to replace the fiber gear on the cam with a metal gear so if any body has a clue where to find one I could really use the help.

I thought replacement camshaft gear is all metal now?
I went to Autozone and they gave me an all metal camshaft on most vehicle's camshaft that I've replaced.

2.5L Timing gears are legendary for wearing out and making noises. GM Performance Parts makes a heavy duty all metal set shown here : http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/gmgoodwrenchjsp/perfparts/partlist.jsp?cat=9443&section=ep
You can get a price and order this part at any participating Chevy/Buick/Pontiac/Olds/Cadillac Dealer. There is a neat dealer locator on the page, just enter your zip code.

*Note: Only GM new car dealers are allowed to retail these(performance)parts. I think it's to avoid the same conterfeit parts problems that plagued AC/Delco .
