Fuel effieciency

Hello everyone I have been looking at a couple of muscle cars lately and before I invest I would like to know how much they are going to cost me. I have a good idea of the cost of most things but I can not find a fuel efficiency rating for these cars anywhere.

What I am looking at are a 1972 Dodge Charger Rallye with a 400 cubic inch V8 (completely stock numbers matching) and a 1971 Chevy GTO LS also with a 400 cubic inch V8 (has 1969 Ram Air III heads) both have automatic transmissions.

If anyone can make an educated guess as to what kind of gas milage they would produce in the city and on the highway I would appreciate it.

well it depends on alot of things, sutch as what kind of carb it has, how well it is tuned, what has been done to the engine and how well it runs, how much you put your foot into it, and gearing and everything else. but to ball park it you are probably looking at somewhere between 8-14 MPG around town. out of the 3 68's and one 67 that are regularly driven that we have,(chevys though), 10mpg is the lowest and mid to hig 12mpg is the best and one of the 68's even has a big block 396 in it. ocasionaly one might get 13 though. now on highway you are looking at better millage but maybe only like 15 or 16. like i said there are to many variables to make a accurate guess though.

If your looking for fuel economy buy a nissan and stay away from muscle cars..I have 427 with 850 holley I get about 4 mpg...your foot has alot to do with mpg

The way I see it is if you have the cash to go out and pick yourself up any good muscle car you can spare the cash to put fuel in it. I dont think that any company put out a MUSCLE car that got good mileage. I have a 71 Nova with a 396 and I am happy with it when ever I get around 12 m/gl. But if you want to lower your horsepower to save a buck at the pumps, get an import!!

If you want fuel economy stay away from the cars that have H-O-L-L-E-Y on the carburetor.

GAS MILAGE, WHAT??? Buy a Honda, mine gets 25 MPG and runs 16's. MY 66 Elco runs 12's and gets about 4 as well.
