Starts and dies

My 99 fuel pump failed. Replaced pump,filter,and relay. Now it will start for 2 sec. and die,if I do this a number of times it will start and run fine,and start fine the rest of day. Some days it dosen't have a problem at all. Replaced relay second time, same problem. Some times it takes 3-4 tries to get it started some times as much as 50-60 tries. I have been told the 99 doesn't have the oil press. switch. Is this problem in the computer?
