yea im running really low on cash, im going to buy one 12 type R and an amp at the same time, i just want to know which would be good/best

i have a small list here
JBL GTO 301.1 294rms @ 2 ohm
MTX Thunder 421D 300rms
Kicker KX400.1 400rms
RF Punch p3001 300rms
RF Punch 301m 300rms

again, what is the budget for the amp?
Until you give a number, or a range of numbers, I can't give out any suggestions

I would stray away from RF and Alpine if I were you, and I just plain don't like MTX and Kicker (personal problem ;)), so that just leaves JBL.

edit: I'm retarded and forgot what the name of the thread is....

Any particular reason it has to be at 2ohm? They have a version of the type-r that's single 4ohm as well.

Cadence Z1000 - 400x1 @ 2ohm - $175
JBL BP300.1 - 300x1 @ 2ohm - $170
Phoenix Gold R5.0:1 - 500x1 @ 2ohm - $190

so the jbl would be decent enough? (i dont want to run it at 1 ohm because many amplifiers start frying at 1 ohm) but anyways what is cadence? i seem to have never heard, and i'll look into the phoenix gold amp, but i also dont want to overpower the sub (probably the alpine type R)

Cadence are very nice and very strong amps, the ones that claim they're 1ohm stable never go into protection at 1ohm, and are even pretty stable at .5ohm. Normally very expensive (MSRP on that amp is $350), but I found a nice site that has some sick deals, and they get away with it because they have some kind of church affiliation from what I've heard (normally Cadence cracks down when dealers charge too low of a price). I've never ordered from this place, but I plan on doing so this summer.

manu website - www.cadencesound.com
dealer - http://usacaraudio.com/CADENCE.htm

PS - they're competition rated, so don't let the 4ohm rating throw you off, they're "cheater amps" for SPL competition, since they're rated so low at 4ohm it drops the class that the competitor is in, so if someone had the ZRS10, they'd be going up against other people with 200 watt amps even though they really have over 2500 watts.

sr20de4ever....quick question...u said most 1 ohm stable amps are stable at .5 ohm.... What about running one at .67 ohm...would you reccomend it and would it have any problems? Audiobahn 1800 class d... friend hooked it up at 1 ohm clipped the hell out of it for an hour and it wasn't even warm.

the impedance spec is only true for that one frequency, it can vary wildly accross the spectrum of a typical sub - say 20-90 Hz. One of the jobs of a good enclosure is to tame the wild impedance curve - and since impedance determines the output of most amps, it helps tame the freq resp too. Some (most) of the class D amps are designed to play at 1 ohm loads

no no, most Cadence "1 ohm stable" amps are stable at .5ohm, not other companies, especially not Audiobahn

sr20de4evr, what do you have against the alpine amps? I love them. Uses very little power to get a very nices sound. Not overpowering either. Maybe it is just the old ones that are good. I have not heard the new ones. I love the old ones though.

Nothing against them specifically, they're alright. They're just too expensive for what you get, and they don't really have any advantage over any other amps. They aren't amazingly small, they aren't super efficient, they aren't the best sounding amps out there (though they don't sound bad), and they aren't that cheap. They're just kind of...middle-of-the-road, with a higher than middle-of-the-road price tag.

hey guys, i went downtown yesterday, and you know how on ebay, the alpine amp cost like $150-$200 on an average

downtown, even tho its instantly 35% off retail it still cost $260, so im thinking, why dont i just buy something like the brutus bx1000d, it cost alot less, and i know it might not be the best amp, but its a good amp for the price
