96' vtec I4 has 190 torque?

So I'm at a Honda dealer a few days ago, and while the guy was doing some work on my car I decided to start up a conversation and ask what the hp/torque was on the car. He says the 96' vtec I4 has 145hp and 190 torque......conflicting with my earlier understanding of 145hp and 147 torque as reported at edmunds.com and a few other sources. However, the "certified" Honda tech insisted it was 190 torque...and doing a search on the internet I've found a few other sources that also say this, such as MSN Cars.

Anyone know what to make of this?

I'm not sure what the true torque figure is for a '96 I4, but I can guarantee you it's not 190...even the '04 2.4 I4 only has 161. Maybe the tech was thinking of the '96 2.7 V6?

Yeah. I would assume he was thinking it's a V6. But how can he if he says it has 145hp? Tht tech should be fired for coming to work drunk and high :grinno:

Honda has yet to produce a FWD car has cranks out 190ft. lbs of torque.

I thought I would just clear this up, because on MSN Auto I was seeing the same exact stats for the 5th gen Accords, showing the 2.2L I-4 having 145 horsepower and 190 lb/ft of torque, at a lowly 7.8:1 compression ratio. I was baffled for a second, and could only think that it was using a different type of fuel not like gasoline.
Then I remembered something completely random, that the older Mazda 626 GTs and MX-6 GTs were turbocharged with 145hp also. And they also put out 190 lb/ft of torque and at a lower than expected 7.8:1 compression ratio. I noticed the MSN Auto specifications for that Accord engine had slightly different bore/stroke measurements so I matched it up with the 2.2L from the Mazda, and they matched up perfectly. So there ya go, the MSN Auto information for the Accord with the 145hp/190tq engine is a gross misprint and reflects the Mazda F2T engine. The Accord of those years only came with a 130 and 145 horsepower F22 or a 170hp C27.

PS the tech doesn't know wtf he's talking about, considering he didn't see anything preposterous with the believed torque figures from an N/A I-4
