Hey everyone...I have had this problem for quite some time and it seems like it does not want to go away..ok when i floor the car i get a bah bah bah noise and the it takes off...the first thing was that my harmonic balancer broke and i replaced it and the problem still wont go away...i cleaned out the carb...now keep in mind my car is running RICH! it has been doing it since i got it....do you think that might be the problem, maybe too much gas is released when i take off from the line...other than that the car runs great, but i want to fix it completely.. thanks for you help...

well i told my teacher about..(big car guy) and he said something about a power band in the transmission...could that be the problem...i could really use some help here...

About that running rich thing.... depending on the year some GM vehicles have a wire to the starter that the ECM uses to tell if the starter is cranking. During cranking the ECM will inject extra fuel. While the engine is running remove the 3amp starter solinoid fuse from the fuse box. If the engine starts running better there is a short in the purple and white wire leading into the ECM. Do not confuse this wire with the SOLID purple wire used on the O2 sensor. Replace the fuse when finished testing.
Bad coolant temp sensors also cause a rich condition. With engine cold and off, remove the plug from the sensor located on the thermostat housing and test it by connecting the leads of an ohm meter to the prongs on the sensor. If the value is higher then 10,000 ohms and the temperature outside is not below freezing (32F) the sensor has failed, replace it.

thanks for that....do you know anything about when i take off quick? could it be the transmission?

Maybe.... I would think with the car running rich it's just getting way too much fuel when you step it down and flooding out. If you sit in park and snap the pedal to the floor quickly do you get a similar sound?

Yes when I am in park and hit it to the floor quickly i get the EXACT sound...mine car is a 86 fiero se by the way...

Yea, mine's an 86 2M4. Givewn what you said, sounds like the tranny is fine. However, that rich condition needs to be fixed. Check the coolant temp sensor.

Do you think that is the only sensor, becasue I think that I also have the oxygen and map sensor...u think that I should change all of them out??? If it isnt the sensor what else could it be?

I just got back from advance auto parts...i told them about my problem and they said probably the fuel injectors...hey rag could that be the rich problem too?

Of course that's it, it has to be it, because it's the most expensive thing they could sell you. In real life, the coolant temp sensor or MAP sensor normally cause the problem. O2 sensors will only cause problems if the engine is warmed up.) A bad throttle position sensor is possible, but uncommon.

Nah! I was going to run a couple of fuel injector fuild through my car hahahahaha! but i am going to get the coolent anyways it is only $8 lol...and i already have a map sensor...
so how is the convertible project coming alone rag?

With gas at $2.11 and climbing, I've parked the Buick and I'll be driving the Fiero most of the summer. When the snow flies I'm starting a ground up chassis restoration and with enough money picking up the convertible kit (maybe widebody convertible... heh heh heh) and finishing up the 3.1L (?maybe twin turbo?) 4 barrell.

Yeah I would not mind have a 3800 sc but i dont think i will be getting one anytime soon...so my 2.8 will do...168,338 miles w00t! but first i got to get it run perfect which is going to take a little money since my other manifold is starting to leak...so i think i need to go out look for a job u know...get some headers =) widebody huh? i guess that wouldnt be bad...dude the twin turbo would be awsome...

what does the coolant sensor actually do? plus i got a new fuel filter to put in...this summer is going to be long..damn gas is $1.87...i would hate to have a wrx sti right now...they have to pay out $2.09 here

The CTS is a digital replacment for a choke - the computer reads the temperature of the engine coolant to decide if it needs to richen the fuel mixture to keep the engine running smooth untill it warms up. If the sensor stops working the engine will run too rich or too lean becuase the computer isn't getting the correct temp reading.

well i guess we will see huh?
