For those who saw the pic of my car, Status report is the radiator and fan are fine suprisingly. Bad news... the white smoke which erupted from my car was freon and other fumes from the ac lines, possibly compressor too.

Now.. I remember a while back someone said that the 4th gens used a different type of refrigerant? If so, does that mean I have to convert my car or something?

Pre 1995-1996 vehicles use R12 freon, that stuff is like gold $50.00 per pound around here. Yours takes about 2.0lbs, I think. There is the option of using a synthetic R12 or converting to the new stuff R134A. You can buy conversion kits(134a) from most parts stores for pretty cheap comparing to R12. Includes R134A w/ special oil & R134A conversion fittings. Since yours a/c system is already evacuated you may want to have it checked for leaks before recharging. Repair shops, even quick lubes can do a leak test for $20.00 or so. Basically they put of vacuum on the system & hope it holds for about 15-20min.

I didnt know you were an expert in suspension AND a/c jackasssi  But hes right. If you take it to a shop to do it, theres no other option than converting to R134a. R12 puts holes in the ozone. Take it to a shope though and do a leak check. They will put a vacuum of 29psi that should hold for atleast 20 min. If it doesnt, then theres a leak somewhere. Also, you said you radiator is ok, but is your condensor ok too? Its the thing in front of the radiator that looks just like a radiator, but its for a/c. If theres any restriction in that, you will need a new one.

MVAC was my first ASE way back in 1998:bigthumb: Had to learn all about that stuff. In the state if IL you must be certified to legally use A/C equipement, more for the recovery process.
