what do you guys think about the new GTO? when i first heard about it, i was like "cool the new GTO" but as i read the reviews, i was quite shocked and concerned that they make it in Australia and that the transmission is a piece of crap. You'd think that if they were coming out with the revival of an awesome classic muscle car, they could make it a little better built and not make it in Australia. Although in Motor Trend, they were saying that the interior was quite nice. Any thoughts/opinions?

I could be reading your post wrong, but what's wrong with the cars made out in Australia? Australia's vehicles are pretty tough.
Anyway, it's a nice car. It has good power in a good-sized vehicle, but I don't think they should have used the GTO nameplate. The GTO is known as a muscle car; if anything, they should have came out with a new RWD sports car like the old T/A and named it the GTO.

im not saying that Australia is a bad place, im just saying that Pontiac is an American car maker, it should be made in America. Australia has cool kangaroos.

I don't see why this belongs in the Grand Prix forum...so...I'll move it. Please keep vehicle-specific threads in their respective forums.

After looking the car over carefully, and seeing some of them in action last weekend at the Pontiacs in the Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia, I must say, it's a helluva car! The fit and finish is excellent. The car performs up to the hype. At least four of them posted 13.70s in the 1/4. Considering all the real racers and hot street cars were .2-.3 seconds off their "normal" times, it shows the GTO lives up the claim it can go 13.50s.
It also fits perfectly into the original description of what GTO is. That is, a mid-sized car with a big engine in it. One post here says something about it should have been a "sports car". This illustrates the problem with time and mythology. GTO was always a great performance car, but NEVER a "sports car". The only GM car to claim that moniker is Corvette. Even the cute little P-Bod (Fiero) wasn't really a sports car. It was a 2-seat "commuter vehicel" with a little ass thrown in for fun.
The best part of the new GTo is that it exists at all. Car & Driver said it most succinctly: "Don't look a gift goat in the mouth!" And the Aussies do build a good car, regardless of the application.
No, it isn't a Corvette trans, per se. It more likely resembles the ones from the F-body.

Having had my GTO now for 2 1/2 weeks in Los Angles, I'm overwhelmed by it's performance! So are the other people who've viewed it and got to take a little ride in it. It sets the new standard as to what a muscle car should be! :smokin:

The worst parts of the GTO...the bulk oil using LS1 and the sloppy 6 speeder are made in the us of a and canada funnily enough.
These bits are then exported to holden in the hope that they somehow build a good car around these shoddy at best copmponents.
Then Holden after miraculously succeeding export it back to the USA as the first decent rwd sports coupe they have had in years. Only to have them whinge about the car not being covered in fibreglass shite.
Oh well, nobody ever said the world had to be fair.

You gotta love people who don't own, never have driven, and most likely have never seen a GTO in person making negative comments in a GTO forum! LOL!

I want bitching about the GTO. I was clearly supporting it. And no i havent driven a GTO, ive driven a monaro (ermm...same car!). The six speeder is sloppy and the LS1 (atleast in examples exported to Australia) have had big time problems. My uncle had his LS1 powered Holden Statesman (local luxury limo) rebuilt after 50,000kms because it was using excessive amounts of oil. And there are plenty of similar stories. If you own a GTO i honestly advise you to check your oil often.
THe car itsself? brilliant! Good mix of grand tourer and sports car, can really carve around corners and has fantastic performance from the big V8, excellent interior though not a great sound (for a V8) but i heard the GTO version has a better exhaust or something. Aesthetically i think the car looks better without the bodykit and side skirts that the GTO gets, without all that stuff its a sleek beauty. Though i can see why they would need to dress it up a bit for American tastes.
But seriously man, if you are lucky enough to own one of these cars look after it because itll give you a lot of driving pleasure.

Irrgardless of LS1 problems in the Land Downunder, the LS1 is a proven performer in the states. I'm glad GM picked an engine well suited for the weight and frame. The car (whether one loves it or hates it) will be a classic and a one-of-a-kind.
