I always thought the GSR MX3 was an actual production designation in Canada, or some other country. You mean it is just people who swap in an engine and call it a gsr? what engine do they swap in?

babybluemx3

Thx.... but i couldnt find ne where on that website that showed me the specs on the engine such as hp and tor. and i have another ? what all would i need to convert from frontwheel drive to all wheel drive?

firefly948
05-13-2004, 02:36 PM
well, to start off, you'd need a driveshaft to go to the back wheels...good luck! That's gonna cost an arm and a leg! Then you need an AWD transmission. That's expensive too! Then you also need a rear and center differentials. Do I need to say it? It's gonna be expensive too!
Unless you have a crap load of money, it's not worth it.

FF to FR.... how does that put you closer to 4WD?:eek7: besides a FR has less stability than a FF... I personally don't like the Feel of 4WD too heavy, just look at specs. and FF has way too much under... but a good 4WD car, is the mid 90's Subaru Impreza... that boxer engine is a piece of work, low center of gravity and such. my friend has one it's pretty quick..

i couldnt find the specs on the site thats sellin the engine but it said awd tranny with drive shaft

An MX3 to a Supra...is it TT or N/A? Either way, why didn't you get the supra in the first place? It's overall a much better car! Don't get me wrong, I love my MX3...but if someone offered a Supra, N/A or TT in exchange for my MX3...I'd do it! Everything on it is just so much better!

ummm....for the record, the subaru has an AWD...not a 4WD. I just want to make sure you know there is a difference. What I don't like about AWD cars is the fact that when you are going over 80 mph on the fw, the handling is below horrible!

lone_night_fox
05-16-2004, 08:47 PM
the Subaru I was refering to has 4wd, and is really the same as a AWD... the diffrence between the two is that the 4wd you make changes to by adjusting the LSDs, the AWD is contoled by a computer not mechanically tuned. but general handling charastics are the same and all 4wd and the setup is the same. also you don't have 4wd cars anymore... they are all called AWD with diffrent names aka (quattro) ect...

lilmx-3w
05-18-2004, 02:03 PM

Can you turbo the KLZE?

firefly948
05-18-2004, 02:42 PM
you can...but babyblue doesn't think it would be smart. I still don't understand why...but something about the compression ratio being too high. I kinda understand

lilmx-3w
05-18-2004, 05:20 PM
Imma feal like a dumbass but how much would it cost to convert the tranny from fwd to awd???

lone_night_fox
05-18-2004, 09:26 PM
tooo much, just go buy a used Subaru or an used Audi, it'll cost you about the same.... and it'll be lower on insurance.

lilmx-3w
05-18-2004, 09:29 PM

bmwm3guy
05-23-2004, 09:25 AM
yes for the KLZE, Im not sure about the BPT.

BTW there is no BPT Type-R... its not a Honda engine

babybluemx3
05-23-2004, 01:35 PM
true ..there're bpt gtx and gtr but no type R...type R is an acura integra engine (b18c) acura type-r engine (http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/honda/b18c5/index.html)

firefly948
05-28-2004, 03:10 PM
what exactly is the difference from a type-r and a regular Honda engine. I know they're faster...but what is the actual physical difference?

babybluemx3
05-28-2004, 09:48 PM
well what do you mean by "regular" honda engine...physical difference...
b16 are 1.6L, b18 are 1.8L, h22 are 2.2L and so on..all 4 cyl.

bmwm3guy
05-28-2004, 09:51 PM
yea, Type-R just means the J-spec version typically. The Japanese motors tend to be slightly more powerful.

babybluemx3
05-28-2004, 09:55 PM
well type R's are produce here in America...it's not a j-spec engine...
like any other b series engine

lilmx-3w

i've read this entire post from beginning to end and i'd just like to correct somethings on here. a gsr motor for the acura integra isn't a type-r motor. a gsr motor is what they have in the acura integra gsr, that's how it received the name 'GSR'. i don't think that you could fit a gsr motor in your car anyway, from alot of my friends who do motor swaps, they say that when they swap a gsr motor into their civic hatches, they gain power but they are only a bit quicker than a gsr and the reason for that is because the gsr motor was only built for the gsr and the other cars don't have all the wiring harness for that of the gsr motor which would help use all the power that the motor has to offer. if you really want to know what type of motor is best for your car, you should join an mx-3 site and ask there. from what i've researched from mx6.com and mx-3.com about the 4cyl motors to the 6 are too much work but possible. you're better off getting a v6 mx-3 and then swapping a klze motor. alot of people will say that the mx-3 is slow but actually it's pretty quick being stock! my friends drive civics, integras, legends, del sols, eclipses, talons, you name it. only a few can actually beat the mx3 cause my motor is only about the same strength as the civic ex and weighs more than an integra (full weight of cars). which is really good for how fast i can move on highway runs and quarter mile. if i were you, i'd buy that supra then sell if to make off money to put into the mx-3. that's just my thought. i love my 3 and when it comes to cornering, my friends really have to struggle to stay with me. what can i say, i'm just a fan of mazda and all the other cars i've driven just don't beat the mazda. and how much do you plan on selling your mx3 for?

mx3man
12-02-2004, 07:58 PM
uhhh... I dont think anyone here was actually planning on swapping a honda GSR motor. When we say GSR, it means a MX3 GS (1.8L V6 K8 motor) swapped with a KLZE making it a sort of "type R". So GS-R...
