If your vehicle is a 1998 thru 2001, and the radio display has gone blank, you'll want to check-out this web site:
www.shareamemory.com/radio
My dealer wanted $450 to repair the lack of display. Can you say "Rip Off?" With the information from the above site, I fixed it myself for 40 bucks total!

Yeah. I paid $20 for access to the above web site which gives detailed instructions with numerous photos and arrows pointing to the exact soldered joints that have to be resoldered. I then went to Radio Shack and bought a 30 watt soldering pencil, soldering wick to remove solder, and thin wire solder. I already had a magnifer and screwdrivers. I bought the radio removal tool from Wal Mart for 6 bucks. The total costs for me was about $40. The only way you'll be able to fix your problem is buy the instructions. There is no way for anyone to explain which areas need fixing. You'll need the pictures from the above web site. It's an easy fix, but impossible without the instructions. I also printed-out all the information and put it into a binder for future reference.

The instructions given allow you to repair the power supply to have the display function again. The repair is on the printed circuit board. No harness is involved.

Not only my radio display has gone blank, it is draining my car battery too. If I do not
drive my van for 2-3 days, the battery goes dead, and then I am forced to jumpstart
it :( I also noticed that the green LEDs remain ON on the lower half of the radio causing
the buttons to glow even after the car has been turned off and locked. So, this seems
to be draining my battery. Looks like there is some sort of shortage or grounding
problem inside the radio. So, while I am assuming the suggested solution would solve
the display problem, my question is will it fix the battery drain problem also? If not,
then would I be better off buying another radio?
Thanks in advance for your advise.

Get on the Shareamemory web site and send Duane a message explaining your problem. He's the expert, not me.

Alright. I was able to take the circuit board out and re-soldered several connections
as suggested on various websites. The good thing is I did not screw anything, and my
radio, cassette, and cd still work ;-), but the bad thing is my display still does not work :(
And I still see some light coming from some of the switches on the radio panel to glow even after I have turned off the car, removed the key, and have locked it. It means I still
have the battery drain problem as well.
Any suggestion or help would be very appreciated.
