What is the cheepest way to get a 12 to 11 second GM car (that includes all the sub-companies chevy, caddy, buick, ect.). What would you use, why, what would you do to it, what's the price tag on that type of thing?

well i love camaro's and f-bods so i'd go with an f-bod no doubt. most likely a newer LS1 camaro ss. Actually just Nitrous on the stock SS i would think would get you in the 12's seeing as how its already running 13's in stock trim.
If you're meaning as a whole car to buy and modify to get 12's in then thats different. You could get a shell off e-bay for a camaro or whatever for around $1000, strip the car for maximum light weight, drop in an LS1 or LT1 with drivetrain (around $1500-4000 on e-bay), get some gears and get it all running and you'll have a 12 second car for cheap as chips. It'll be an ugly looking car and definitely not streetable in any way but i'm sure an LT1 or LS1 could push 12's in a car which had barely any weight, just a shell :p couldn't it??
Ahhhh, i've always secretly dreamt about tearing out my camaro's LT1 and stickin it in my 2000 civic :p if only it were possible, just imagine the performance :p

hmm.. yes yes.. Definatly Dual fartcans.. Except getting an exhaust system is a waste of time and money.. The best bet would be to weld the dual 6" tips onto the stock pea shooter 1 1/4" exhaust pipe.. That seems to be the way to go around here

hes probly just doing research guys, he wants a street racer or something, and hes doing research, nothing wrong with gathering information.
personally, i think hypsi should teach this guy about Buick GN's, but personally, i would hop up a used cavalier with an ecotec and five speed. throw a big turbo on it and a hit of nitrous, thing would be fast as shit.

It would be fast!
but I would go with something a little more "race bred" than a cavy.. The only thing about cavaliers I'de like is that there are so many of them that parts are plenti-ful..
But they are a cheaply built car.. Front wheel drive is also definatly not the way Ide go for street performance.. The handling of a rear-wheel is much much better, especially hard cornering.. The suspension and front driveline would also need extensive work to keep up with the demands of a 11 second car.. IMO
I would look at, as Iroc mentioned, a Buick GN, or for less then you'd spend on an LS1 SS or TransAm, you could probably get a late 80's Camaro L98 into the 12sec. range..
hmm.. an L98 Stroked and poked, ported and polished, Lunati Proseries Crank, Lunati cam, lingenfelter AFM heads, Lunati forged pistons and conecting rods, headers and exhaust, Nos with stand alone fuel management...
And a big ass blower!

Nobody mentioned what I'd think could be the fastest GM creation, take a Fiero and drop in an LS1, or an LT1 Supercharged... this thing will FLY!!!!

I am researcing what kind I should get. So just continue conversing on what you all think this is VERY helpful. Though i have found what I am looking for if you car check the car comparisons in general cars.

Actually, I used to work with a guy that had a 350 in a Fiero. The 350 was kinda mild and it could haul ass but because the weight of the engine was in the back, he said at high speeds it wouldn't steer for shit. Plus when he said high speeds, he was just talking about 75-80 mph on the freeway.
As far as building something cheap, my 350 thats in progress right now will cost about $5500 when it's done, and that includes the 300 hp shot of nitrous. This should be enough engine to get most cars into the 11 to 12 second range.

oh, and the Fiero was neon green. Why go through the trouble then rice it out and paint it neon green.

yeah forgot about that, one of the guys i used to work with, was friends with a guy who put a northstar engine in a fierro, that thing was re-cock-ulous. oh and yes the cav would need work, and i dont really condone the use of FWD ;) but i am an engineering major, with acces to a machine shop, and am working on the possiblity of grafting AWD onto a cav, an AWD, turbocharged, 5 speed cav would be one helluva ride. but i agree they are cheaply made. probly wouldnt last that long, but hell, its like dating a hot stupid chick, you dont want it to last long, just want to have fun while it lasts ;)

If you've read the "cheep?" thread in car comparisons you'd see that I am going to be working on throwing in a cam a chip and a k&n air filter on an 86 vette. I know of someone who has done it and does 11.5s on street tires. This is all he has done to the car by the way.
So do any of you have suggestion on where to buy a cam and chip and which one to buy?

LS1 FBody with a 75-125 shot of N2O should get you there. Get some drag radials and hit the track. Even an LT1 with a shot and DR's should get you there. What's a 93 Z28 cost these days?

check on e-bay, it'll give you a rough estimate of what it'll cost you. Not exactly sure on the LS1's but I've seen the LT1's and tranny's go for between $1500 and $2500.
