98 Intrepid Starter Problems?

Does anyone know what years will interchange? I have a 1998 with a 2.7. I got a starter from a 99 and it looks identical. When I got it in place, it acts like it doesn't want to go into place. The bolt holes line up right, but it wont fit snug. Just wondering if anyone else had trouble with the tight space of this job, maybe I just need to hold my mouth right? Thanks!

Well, I had to take the starter back out and file the end so it tapered better. It was too easy then
