Wet sanding

I saw on spike tv were a old explorer was getting wet sanded and then buffed with a compound and it gave the paint a very nice shine to it. I asked one of my dads friend (painter) if he could do it he said yes that it will take a couple of hours but I wanted to know if anyone has done this, does it take your clear coat off? will my paint get fucked? my car is a 98 and it is black and I want to make my paint really shinny espicially during summer because i'll be rollin with my top down crusing to the beaches any answer will be appreciated thankyou!!!

Ask your dad's freind if hes the one doing it.. if i were you id just wash it real good and use some good wax first.. if your not satisfied have that done. wax products are a dime a dozen and i really dont have a favorite.. but i hear that new stuff from turtle wax is posed to be good. from my experience the more of a pain in the arse to put on the better the result haha gl peace

I just had my entire car repainted and that's what they did. After painting and applying the clear they wet sanded and buffed the car. According to the painter, that is the step that either makes or breaks the paint job. So to answer your questions. No it will not take off your clearcoat (unless this has been done many times to your car...my detailer did this by accident when he was younger...buffed too many times = no paint/clear). It will not fuck up your paint if done properly and I feel that you will be very satisfied with the results. Provided it is done properly. Let us know how you make out.

turtle wax suxs btw. my fav is this dri-wash and wax stuff its the best ive used

I've got a black car too...I have the notorious swirls but have used TurtleWax color match wax and it works pretty kickass especially if you use a clear harder wax over it...Mguires pretty good.. try it out you WONT be dissapointed...GLuck

one of hte hardest cars to wax is white, because i always seem to miss some spots no matter how much i go over buffin it.

wetsanding the car removes all the grime that builds up in the finish (clear). by doing this it pulls out the razilliance in the paint. (shiny shit) The water keeps it from ripping up the clear because it keeps the surface soft and off direct contact. plus you use a VERY fine grit paper. upwards of 600. it won't hurt your paint at all. it will get rid of your swirls, and pull up some new color to the ride. after it's done hand was the hell out of it, add a color match wax and put a good dose of hard wax (meguires is my preffered) on it. and you'll be more than happy. it'll look damn near new if you put the time into it. waxing will help a ton. You might not even need the wetsand. a good was and wax makes a huge difference. but if he'll do it for real cheap of even free then it's def worth it. Enjoy
