hey guys, this is my idea for my box, its a sealed right now, but because im in a rush, i kinda thought this up, i will buy wood to make a box, but i want to know how this would sound
no proper tuning, just a box that i fabricated (im a newb dont flame on me plz) i really dont know how tuning affects the subs currently, but the amp i use only goes down to 50hz (a fosgate amp)

Is the box sealed or vented? If it is vented...don't do it. IF it is sealed just make it to the manufactures specs and it will sound fine.

Not sure how to take that comment. But the way he wrote the desription at first it seemed to me he was going to build a box not that he already has one. If you look at his top left picture there is no port and the other pictures show a port. Just a littel confusion no biggie. On another not Haibane....your art work is sweet. I am looking for something to be airbrushed on my vette. Ever do any design work for cars?
aznxthuggie ...if you want to do a port then you really need to find out the proper specs for the port. Tuning is critical for max performance. Your subs should have come with a spec sheet that will tell you what you will need to know. If not give the manufacture a call and ask them. I am sure they will tell you.

my bad but like I said you need the proper specs. A port is not something that is just put into an enclosure. You can do more harm than good. Take a few minutes to make a phone call. You are much better of that way.

It won't cost you anything but the phone call to get the specs from Sony. Now as far as my professional opion...15 years in the car audio industry...I do not think it will sound good with that thin of a port.
I just re read your post about your RF amp..what do you mean it will only go down to 50hz? Are you talking about the xover?

If the model number of your speaker is Sony XS-L1200B then Sony does not recomend to put that sub in a ported enclosure. Is that the sub you have?
Your amp will play below 50hz. 50hz is the lowest frequency you can set your xover to.

How to make it play below 50hz....play a cd that goes below 50hz...there you go. That sub will work in a ported enclosure. If you click on the the "features and specs" tab it will tell you that you need an enclosure that is 1.58 cubed and a port that is 3" in diameter and 8" long. Per woofer. Now the only bad thing is they do not say if that is 1.58 with or without displacements.

99% of the time the box size is without displacements.
