Dodge/Chrysler has decided to enter the Sedan arena with some updates to 2 of it's current model. Oh yes, the have built some little ole thing with four doors, but nothing to take seriously. First up is the Intreped SXT, equipped with a 3.5 HO 250hp V6 at about $25k. I have rented a couple of Intrepid previously, and I always thought they were grossly underpowered. Maybe somebody heard me.
This brings us to the 300M. It all new and it doesn't look anything like an Intrepid-finally. It almost has a old Rolse/Bentley thing going on. Available in a 2.6L, 3.5L, 5.6L engine. I dig the look, but it's a Cry-sler.
So are the new girls a "Queen" and "Princess", or are these the same old 'ho's from 'round the way?

Na, the new line-up from Chrysler is nice. But their cars are targeted for a different audience then the Max is, or at least it was I dunno with this Sh*tty 6thGen if they now are focusing on the same target audience.

I think this new Intrepid is aimed squarely at the same group. A mid-sized sedan acting like a sports car. That's Maxima. It even has the same size engine and similar power. An Intrepid is bigger on the inside than any Max, but because of the shape, I hit my head getting into it.

they'll still be fat hogs like most chryslers, sans prowler. remember when the old 3.5L 300m was supposed to best the maxima? not gonna happen. a 300m w/ a hemi sounds pretty awesome though. my friends dad got a hemi powered dodge ram 1500 and it's fuckin fast, especially for a truck.

A Hemi 300C will piss on any Maxima in a straight line. 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, that's pretty quick. Things are damn ugly though. I wouldn't drive one, it is a Chrysler after all.

Hey, don't be dissin on Chrysler. The 300M Specials with the 3.5L HO haul some pretty decent ass. The 300C with the Hemi is extremely quick. But, so far, they are already running into transmission, KS, and alignment problems straight from the factory. But they are very fast cars. The 300M Special is still my favorite though. This all coming from someone who fixes Chrysler cars for a living.

Agreed, Hemi or no Hemi, until Chrysler starts using Mercedes parts (ie., Engine and Trans) then they will never see a nickel of my business. I've owned a Chrysler before and I'll tell you one thing for sure, they sure got the first part of their name right:
Chry=Cry-sler, which is what you'll be doing after it breaks down on you with less than 38k on the odo and fail to deliver after 50k, plus spend more time in the shop than you will driving it.
SEMatt you said it yourself, and you can see what I mean.

Taken directly from an Edmunds.com review of the 300M Special:
Mid-range response is strong, but the 300 is a large car, and we extracted a relatively leisurely 0-to-60 time of 7.6 seconds during our testing. In terms of refinement, this Chrysler mill is no match for the Nissan Maxima's sweet V6 of identical displacement
They are in the exact same price range, and a Max will destroy a 3.5L 300M. My 2k3 does 0-60 in 6 flat. No match. I don't trust Chrysler quality one bit, but oddly enough, I may actually trust it more than a Mercedes. Benz quality is freakin terrible these days, barring a few models. I don't think I would buy any Chrysler or Mercedes, with the possible exception of an S600, but only because the 7 series are horse shit.

The 300C is very nice, but for $33,000, you can get a real sports sedan (such as STi or Evolution) that will have much less problems if you treat them right. They just aren't as luxurious.

yup, that's true BK2KMax. We've had so many sebrings in with 2.7L engines getting all sludged up from people not changing their oil...it gets so hot the bearings weld themselves to the crank and cams. it's pathetic. when i drove the 300M with the 3.5L HO, it was really strong, and it does seem strong enough to take a 4th gen max. i'll have to see if someone from work wants to race me in one and i'll let you guys know how it goes. oh, and you get so many good looks from the girls whe cruisin in a 300C.

But for me, it comes down to the tranny. I have owned a few chrysler products and the transmissions have always made a clunk when you shift into gear. it just doesn't inspire confidence.
On the flip side, I am already starting to see the new 300M on the street and it does get your attention. That's the tragedy of it all. Chrysler is making great LOOKINg cars, but it's always the pretty ones that should have a warning label.

It's in the same class with the Q45, 340hp 8 cylinder. Unless the car is crazy heavy, you aint romping on the 300M-C.

That is an article about an automatic 2002 Maxima. A 6-speed 2003 Maxima runs to 60 in 5.9 seconds and can go faster than that. Learn what the hell you are talking about before you post. The 2000 and 2002/2003 Maxima's were beasts of different nature. The 2000's could still do 60 in 6.9 seconds.
Acutally, we're driving a damn fast family sedan. The same engine as in the G35, 350Z, and the new Skyline. If you're posting in favor of the 300M, stop. This isn't even a close comparison.

Why make a family sedan into a racecar?
Pick

Nobody said it was. Race cars go 0-60 in 2 seconds. Racecars weigh 1200 lbs. and make 900 HP. Racecars are made of space-age aluminum. I don't know what your obsession is with that word, but its just plain stupid.
Why put a 500-hp motor into a luxury sedan?(ex. Mercedes AMG). The Maxima is designed to be a 4-door family sedan with a powerful V-6 and some sporty flair. The formula has obviously worked and the VQ is the best engine in the world.

Why make a family sedan into a racecar?
To be honest, because we can. If you're talking about why is it made with as much power and is a FWD car, because Nissan could. There is nothing more satisfying than passing someone that didn't see it coming. The glazed eyes, the dropped jaw that fades into a look of shame and disappointment. It makes driving a family sedan more than bearable.
Oh, and as you're probably not real Max familiar, we also have stuff like superchargers, turbochargers, headers, nitros, full exhaust, brembo brakes, chips, oversized cams, etc.
