I just recently bought a 1968 Rs in fall. ( thought it was an Ss buuuut i looked at the numbers and its not, o well its still a 68). Neway after i swap my tranny from the powerglide to the 700R4 and get new shocks and tires and exhaust n stuff i want to get it painted. I would appreciate it if I could get some feedback on what colors you guys think would look good. Just need some ideas thats all. Oh by the way...its red now. Ill try to get a picture on here soon.

Have you thuoght of doing a fade from one color to another? Like from front to back - silver to blue, or something like that? What trim package do you have?

ok well first, you know the tranny swap is not a direct swap right? you need many other parts and many things need to be done. the drive shaft will need to be shortened, the trany crossmember will need to be movied, and the plugs are what controls the lockup on the torque converter. so yes you will need to do something with them if you run a lockup converter, witch you should. you will need to buy a TCC( the torque converter control, for the lockup), and a T.V. cable and all the brackets for that. you can not just swap the 700 in place of your poweglide and think its the same cuz they work totaly different aside from they are both automatic trannys. you must have the T.V. cable set up correctly otherwise you will kill the tranny in probably a week. make sure you know what your doing before you try this otherwise you will waste lots of money and screw up lots of stuff.

Yeah i know about all that other stuff. And im not getting a lockup cause i was told i dont really need one. I have a TV cable that came with the tranny but im gonna buy a new one anyway. And with the crossmember. instead of moving it, im gonna cut the mount off and weld pieces of stock back to where i need it. i saw someone do it with a 69 and it works fine.

yeah you dont really need a lockup but it will cost you a couple/few hundred RPMs on the overdrive gear and it will create more heat. i dont know why you would not want to run one they are more eficiant. oh and with the cross member mount, make sure it wasnt a 2004R that they rewelded the mount becuse thats one wany you can do those but the 700 is different, i think if you just do that you might run into problems hitting the pan, but i dont know for sure, it might work.

those center caps for the rally rims were goin for 80 bucks a piece here in wisconsin...i got 4 with the rims and one fell off and a stupid SUV ran it over so i bought 4 more on ebay for $50. $80 a pice is rediculous. Ok time for school and work. talk to you all later.
