Buy the official repair manual from Toyota. Second choice (cheaper) would be Haynes.

I agree with Brian, your best bet would be to buy the official manual from a Toyota dealership, although you can also settle for the Haynes manual, or possibly Chiltons, they are both pretty much the same inside, just different covers.

I've got a chilton's manual for my camry. I like it.

I think that the Haynes manual leaves a few things out in some places, and also provides some "misleading" information.

Chilton and Haynes have "brand name" recognition from the past. If you look at the Chilton publisher and the Haynes publisher you'll notice they are both "Haynes" publications. Furthermore, the author of the Toyota manual is Robert Maddox in both Chilton and Haynes. Both manuals have slightly different formats but the info is pretty much the same. Even the same pictures. Both are good basic skill books.

There is enough difference between the Haynes and Chilton's manuals that you should look at both, if possible, to see which one you prefer. I prefer the Haynes because of the greater detail in the scheduled maintenane part of the manual, when compared with the same Chiltons. This may not always be a good generalization, but it is true in the manuals I have needed.

Either way, whichever you buy, they both provide enough decent information to let you know how to do what you're wanting to attempt. So no matter what you purchase, either one will do you good.

I prefer the official Toyota manual although it does cost too much. I've also bought Haynes for several cars and find them to be adequate most of the time. I've been thinking of trying AllData--DIY online service. Anyone using it? If so, do you like it?

There is no doubt that the official Toyota manual is the best.
