I know the pros of going to a 180 degree thermostat, however are there any bad things? I have a 2001 with the 5.3 V8 with the K&N FIPK and a Flowmaster. I get a little detonation when it gets real hot out...OK...I live in Phoenix...it's always hot out!! Eventually I would like to add the Hypertech, however are there any issues by just adding the 180 right now due to computer issues?? Thanks!!

I tried the same thing. My 92 silverado was overheating so I opted for a 180 thermostat thinking it would make my truck run cooler. The only problem with that is due to the poor grade of fuel being produced, the higher block temp is needed to help with fule detonation. I would go back to the 195 Deg thermostat required by the manuf. specs and go with an aux. cooling coil, heavy duty fan clutch or electric fan.
