Just got my 240sx!!!! Need some advice on KA-T.

I just got a 92 240sx hatch with 122,000 miles. It needs to be street legal so I am looking at a KA-T. Is that too many miles? Does it need a rebuild? What are the best turbos for the KA, and are they legal? If there is anybody that has already done it, I could use some advice!

Also, how much hp/torque would it take for a 240sx to run low 12s?

theres a guy who ran a 12.9 with 250rwhp and good traction, he is also one of the better 240sx drag drivers and gets LOW 60' times.

to run low twelves you would need atleast 300rwhp and good traction, This means grippy tires, drag setup suspension, GOOD LSD, proper gear selection...

past 100K you might want to rebuild the motor, besides if you blue print your motor right, you might even get more power on the motor by itself might even cost the same or just a little more than running a turbo, but at that milage, it will not last that long unless you keep boost very very low.

do a compresion test that will help you determine if you cant turbo that engine or not doesnt matter how many miles if its been taken care of and has good compression

I would say a T3 .48ar and 60 trim at 5 lbs boost would be pretty safe if your engine still has pretty good compression. I would say at least over 140psi. All the cylinders should have close to the same compression, at least within 5psi.

ur questions

1. Too many miles? Yes
2. Need rebuild? no
3.T3 is a very good turbo for the KA, and no it is not legal.
4. 12's? 300hp minimum

no turbo KA is legal, so if u wanna stay legal, i suggest you sell your 240 cuz your not going turbo legally

I don't think that having an illegal turbo is as bad as having an illegal engine is it? Can a turbo stop it from passing smog?
Thanks for all your advice so far!

Compression tests don't tell you the condition of the internals, it may say there is enought compression but, with that amt of mileage, things get weaker, you don't want to pay 2grand for a turbo and then 10K mile later break something.
Age kills internals, common sense will tell you, as things get older they get weaker, and past a certain point, you are forced to very concervative levels of boost.
Bottom line you want the raw power, you have to start from the ground up.

In California, there is a street legal turbo kit that i have not seen anyone post up so i went online and found it. Here the site

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/amquery.php

Then go to turbo charger system. once the page shows up press ctrl+f and type in "240-sx" then view pdf and bam there ya go

Then u'll see your CAli Street Legal Ka-t. but your need a 91-92 240. Have fun!

Or click here hehehe

Next time you post in a thread, please check to make sure the date is relevant, unlike this thread, which is over four years old. I'll give you an idea of how old it is: I was still in high school.

I'm currently working full time with my college degree and I'm married.

get the idea?
