Column shifter info

I'm working on a 1974 Dodge B100 Van. It has the A-230 three speed manual trans with the shifter on the column. ( Three on the tree). Where can I get information or specs to repair the assembly? The lever on the steering column that the Reverse-First shift rod fits into is very sloppy. The 2nd-3rd lever seems to be fine. Also, the shifter arm is also loose. Any information would be appreciated. Changing to a floor shift seems to be a pain because of the location of the engine cover. Engine is a 318.

change out the plastic bushings and you should be ok, but whenI get home tonight I'll look at the parts manual and I may be able to get you some old part numbers, and the parts should still be available.
Second, If the column guide(collar) is bad, then you can find one in a junkyard all the way up to '77. A later model complete column will also fit, but you'll have to take the whole coloumn, mounting bracket and the shift rods.

Re-consider the floor shifter and change out the 3speed for a overdrive 4 speed (the shifter mounts to the left side rear of the trans, and it'll sit right next to your seatbelt on the right. You'd only have to cut a 3"x3" hole out and put a boot over it, and its well BEHIND the dog box.

I actually have the whole OD 4speed setup, less the bellhousing and the boot is worn and cracked. I'd let it go cheap...

That's what I would do, put it on the floor.

Finally got this shifter to work. My computer has been S.O.L. for a while. I had to use a piece of PVC pipe to make up some bushings for the shifter rods. they work great. Also had to repair the support at the bottom of the column. I had to use a piece of 2" PVC pipe for that. took out most of the slop in the shifter. Have to do some final adjusting to the linkage itself. Its still loose but it does shift into gears without hanging up. Been thinking sbout putting in the Overdrive 4 trans into it and still using the column shifter. Ill need to put an additional lever in to shift into reverse. Its a pretty wild idea and wont be implimented for quite some time. thanks for the info guys. Your help was greatly appreciated. :p

Put the reverse lever on a cable and t-bar like an old greyhound bus! it would work :)

For that matter, a parking brake assembly from a '67-72 dart or valiant would do the trick, and mount right under the dash edge, and you'd have to use a heavier return spring to get it to shift out of reverse, but it's "do-able".

Good luck!
