Progress pics - Merc Benz S600...

Well.........iv'e got my new project under way and as you can see its a Benz S600 and its a Revell !!! Ive had this kit a couple of months now, never thought id build it beacause it looked crap upon opening the box. The quality of this kit makes Fujimi's kits look top notch !!!
Anyway, really fancy building it now as i love big benzes. It's gonna be bayside blue (though paint & primer havent left HLJ yet) with blue interior. Gonna have the sunroof open effect. Will be slightly lowered with the Amistad V's on which i would like to thank HIROBOY for. Oh.......gonna be lots of chrome (Alclad) bits on it too.
Not much in the way of progress this time but i'll be back soon with interior progress which is under way.

Later, Mike. :smokin:

Sorry !

I threw them in the trash straight away !!! They were the saddest, cheapest looking rims ive ever seen. They are just the front rim, the back is a sort of black click on cap thing. The tyres are real "plasticy" looking.
Sorry for the hopeless description !!!

The kit is not of the highest quality by any means, but there is something about that completed model on my shelf that made me go and buy two more (nonw will be build stock though). The model has a lot of presence, and if you look past the lack of detail or poor fit (very very poor fit in some cases), it's a model that one has to build.

I am building one right now. Its Designo Black metallic with a light brown interior. All I need to do is finish up some of the body detailing and the interior. I'll post pics when I am done.

You Hit The Nail On The Head There !!!

And that is why this kit has suddenly jumped to the front of my list and is now under progress..............

Thanks

Well finally some progress pics. The interior was completed today, though it isnt glued together yet it looks something like this. Think this blue will suit the body later when thats painted. Its tamiya flat blue with a dash of flat white, grey panel line marker on the seats then lots of "nose grease" for the leather look.

Thought about cutting a bit at the back then to fit these ive had a while. Never cut or puttied really before so im feeling a touch nervous about this. What do you guys reckon to me throwing these on it. I know there sticking out a bit much on the picture, looks a bit stupid.........

Got them at my local hobby store. Cant remember the make, wasn't Fujimi or any other known (to me) make. They weigh a bit though but a spray of black paint then some Alclad and they'll be the business.

I have this car, and the quality is very poor even for Revell. I finished it as a Tenerife taxi, white with a metalic blue roof, I resprayed the original rims to begin with and they didnt look too bad, but after a couple of weeks the tyres themselves self destructed, not sure if the paint reacted with the rubber or what but I ended up binning them and replacing.

Getting back to your build, the interior looks great although I think Revells representation of the wood trim is a little light imo. await progress on the body.

Nice, I think those mufflers would look really sharp if you just cut the stock ones off and replaced them with those, that might give the right look to the tips.

I wish I had the parts I need for my Benz, I look at it all the time and want to build it again.

I think those are Aoshima VIP Muffler set, same as the Muffler from this kit:

Personally, I think those pipes might be a bit out of scale for the Merc, but the interior came together very well. How about something in a diameter between stock and the aftermarket exhaust you've shown?

mike united
05-17-2004, 03:41 AM
They arent Fujimi or Aoshima !!! But in saying this i cant for the life of ne remember the name of the manufacturer. One things for sure though...........They are 1/24th scale, they look huge on my pics but that's just the camera playing tricks !!!

Seems I've started a 600S building frenzy... I'm not gonna say the kit is great but I didn't have any big problems with it. See my sig for the progress thread. The white one in your sig, is that your car? That thing looks pimp!

Well........finally managed some progress this week. Painted yesterday first with silver and then mica blue and then clear coated, no real shine as yet but after a good rub down with fine rubbing it should be nice and shiny. As you can see ive made two large cuts on the back bumper and shaped them with putty, the same on the front, going to insert two small lights into the holes. The grill, along with the whole exhaust system and other bits have been re-chromed with Alclad.
FASTPHIL..........your right !!! This is no kit for anyone looking for a "quick build", very poor quality indeed but if you love "Mercs" like i do then its a must !!!
