Hey guys. Im writing a paper for my english class on a sub-culture of interest. Being a car enthusiast myself, i naturally chose to research about car enthusiasts. My thesis statement is that above, To car enthusiasts, its more than just a hobby, its a lifestyle. I was hoping i could use you guys and the automotiveforums.com as a source for my paper, so what i need you guys to do is drop a few lines that i can quote from in response to my thesis statement, or whatever else you feel like writing about. Thank you guys for your time, since we are a growing subculture!

well to me a real car enthusiast is one who risks investing in a car. 95% of the time what you put into a car you dont get even 1/4 of it out. to an enthusiast it doesnt matter. its not about anything other than the car. what people say doesnt matter. you dont discriminate against cars you enjoy them. to me its all about "the nod" when you pull next to someone they check out your ride and just nod. it gives you a feeling of satisfaction. it also is something never off your mind. it invades everything you do. me personally it even gets in the way of my college education i dont want it too. but its a craving to learn more about cars. yet its always in a different way. learning the way i want to. i would go insane in a classroom. i think the main thing is the way i do it is more 1-on-1 in the sense i ask people the questions i get answers or i find the answers to the questions i want. its not always the same feeling towards the hobby either. some would rather have show cars. some rather rebuild old schools. some want fast v8's some want fast 4's. no matter how you look at it though a true enthusiast has respect for all methods. you may prefer one way or another, but respect is a must otherwise you are not a true enthusiast.

A true car enthusiast, is someone who will notice and reap the benifits of each mod he does to his car. A true enhusiast isnt out to just make people look at his car and say ohhh look at that body kit. A true enthusiast is not that damn mexican who has 400 pounds of ground effects and spoiler on his otherwise stock civic. thats all i gotta say

so true. and i talked about "the nod" in a way of appreciation for the car. did i say anything about body kits or anything. NO! also if someone wants to make a slow ass show car that looks like a transformer thats fine. there are different sides to the automotive enthusiast world just because someone put on a "400 lb body kit" doesnt mean it always looks bad. show cars deserve more respect they may not be the fastest but they have more hours working on the body than anyone wants to think should be spent. well the good ones anyway. if you wanna "rice" or "soybean" out your car go ahead. its all about the vehicle and enjoying it and knowing that when you go out to drive thats all that matters. you the car and the road. the only thing i dont like is trailer queens. unless its like a super rare thing or mint restored car things of that nature. a street racer isnt necesairly a car enthusiast some are yes. most arnt. just cuz you went and added a CAI intake and exhaust doesnt mean shit. a real enthusiast knows the risk of street racing and respects that his and his cars life is worth more than a few cheap thrills. if you mod your car and take it to a track thats alll good. but realize when your street racing you never know whats gonna come around that corner. ive seen some guy street racing on a bike lose cotrol hit a curb go flying throught the air into a tree. the tree broke his helmet and a branch ripped his face off litteraly. he know has to relearn how to do everything. and has a humungous scar on his face. because he was just having fun and enjoying his new exhaust. be smart and play safe. you may say i dont care if i wreck. but the person you run over and kill does. there are thousands of sides to this story but no matter what ANYONE says its not worth the risk NO MATTER WHAT PERIOD END OF STORY.

To some it's impressing others with thier car while with others it the satisfaction of doing the job themselves. What is a car enthusiast? Somebody who spends +40K on a new car or somebody who pulls a junker out of a junk yard and spends +40K to make it better and faster than the day it rolled off the assembly line or somebody who is constantly reconfiguring their car to see which modification is better and suits thier needs. It's all a matter of personal opinion. Going fast in a 1/4 mile doesn't impress me but going all out for as long as you can does. 140MPH in a 1/4 mile ehhh so what... an average speed of 140MPH for for a couple of hours ok you got my attention. It's all a matter of personal taste. Unfortunely some lack in that department for example the 4 door Corisca that runs around town with the wing, homemade bodykit, Japanese charaters stickers, nascar stickers, running lights, miss matched rims and tires, underbody neons, speakers sitting in the back window, and tinted windows. It may say cool to him while to others it screams WTF?!?!?. You might this your car is the tightest thing to ever hit the road while somebody else thinks it's the biggest POS to ever curse the roadways.
Bottom line is this a car enthusiast is someone who either pays or works on their car to satisfy their own vision of what a car should look like.

So are mine but if you saw this Corsica that has mirror on the front half and regular on the back half you would say the Corsica looks like crap with tinted windows.

Unfortunetly the Corsica owner's vision of what a car should look like is a bad acid trip to me. Have you ever pull over because you've seen a car so ugly you couldn't stop laughing?
