2001 Astro van, sticky accelerator

My 2001 Astro van has 43000 miles and a sticky accelerator, once you push on it, it's okay, but from idle position it acts like maybe some carbon build up in the throttle body. Has anyone else had this and what is the solution besides taking it to the dealer and spending $200. Is there a home fix for this, maybe some choke cleaner sprayed in the throttle body for instance. THanks!!

Use a lithium spray or wd-40 with long tube and spray the lingkage. Mine did the same thing right around 40k and once you mashed the pedel it was ok. This will make it like new again.

There is a buildup of dirt in your throttle body.
Use a quality choke cleaner and a soft tooth brush and clean the throttle bore and blade

a quarter turn of the throttle set screw will do the trick. there is a gm bullein on this.

I had this problem. Quite aggrivating. Looked down the throttle body and saw nothing. I procrastinated for months and it eventually went away. Not the right way but it worked.

had same problem on my 2001 astro the cleaning and lube did not do the trick but the 1/4 turn did the job -thanks bmf2o6

Same sticky throttle on 97 Astro, easily fixed by examining throttle valve plate and spraying THE SNOT OUT OF IT with throttle body cleaner,I wish all my problems were as easily fixed..

What does the GM tech bulliten say? Which way do you do a 1/4 turn? I have had the same problem for years. Please help!

If the problem has been evident since the vehicle was new, most likely a 1/4 turn clockwise on the idle stop screw will fix it. If the problem has gradually gotten worse over time and miles, there's probably a build up of carbon in the throttle body, on the underside the throttle plate where it seats against the bore. Most auto parts stores carry a, (spray can) product specifically designed for cleaning throttle bodies. Follow the directions on the can.

Thank you so much for the reply. I bought this van used @ 58,000 miles and it has always done this. Since I now have over 151,000 miles and it has not gotten worse, I think it's always been this way. I think I will give both tips a shot. A neighbor of ours had the same problem on a 2000 and the repair shop told her that it was bad fuel injectors and charged $90.00 for the fix. This never did make sense to me and now the truth comes out.
