Ok, i have to have more power. Heres the question. Keep the 3. 4or drop in an 8? Being 17, i don;t have alot of money but enough to play around. After reading the forum, it sounds like the v6 to v8 is to much trouble but what do you thinK? I was thinking like a either salvage engine or wrecked cop car. the capri or something. Anyway, if i upgraded to the v8, would i have to get a new tranny, rear end, radiator, guages, computer and harness?
Lets talk about the 3.4. What kind of power could i get out of it? Lets talk about breaking it down. What do i need to get? Cam, pistons, rods, polish the heads? HOw about a super charger? ProCharger's headquarters is like 5 min away and i was think about calling them. Help me out here.
V8 or keep the 3.4? If 3.4, what do i need to do, how much power, and something about cost?

id check and see just how much hp the 6 can
put out, if not much drop in a 8 cyl.

the 3.4 can be modded some to get around upper 10's to elevens. i think. dont quote me on that.
i dont kno how hard it would be to put a v8 in it or how much the engine would cost but the power gains would be good and there will be more options for modding it. it will be harder to find parts for the 3.4. if you want to bad enough you can make the 3.4 a fast car, but it will be much harder and cost more for the mods. id look into seein how much the v8 would cost and how hard it is to do the swap

i was going to do a v8 swap in a 91
rs camaro 3.1v6. after i figured
it up i could have just traded
and got a 90 rs with a v8, and
thats what i did, it has a 5 spd to.
if you really like the car and want to
keep it. save up, or get a loan,
look in some junk yards for a wrecked
z28, get the motor, trans, the wiring
harness., and the computer.

the only downside to the swap is the price. if you have some cash and the ability i would definitely say go with the swap. i am currently trying to decide what i want to do with my 3.4L. the engine can make probably up to 250 horsepower if you know what youre doing, and thats with a complete performance rebuild with all new internal stuff. if you want to try and race competatively then i would say go get an 8. however, if you just want a car to tinker on and get some decent power out of, then start workin on the 3.4...

oK, this is still going to be a daily driver. I will not do alot of races, i just want to be able to screw around with someone when they pull up to me at the light. So, should i stick with the 3.4?

well to take a kick to my own crotch, you're prolly not going to be able to kill a lot of people if you stick with the sixer. the amount of money it takes to make the car faster than a lot of the newer more advanced cars is not really worth it for what you want to do. if all you want to do is hand a couple civics their asses then you are already set, but as a heads up, the 3.4 is not a good power plant for the heavy f-body. its great for putting around town and gettin miles per gallon, but it doesnt boad well in the performance realm without extensive modification...

Just get a camaro with an 8 cyl. If you dont have the money, get a second or first Gen Camaro. They are the best Camaros anyway. Can't beat carburetion if you want to go cheap and go fast.

if you want ot be able to take on other camaros or mustangs or anything with a v8, the 6 wont be able to keep up. when i said that it could be modded to 11's earlier, it turns out that is pushing it. 12s are more realalistic. i would go with the v8 if its in teh price range. the gas will be worse but will be able to hang with the other 8's.

actually there are a lot of eighters that get waaaay better gas mileage than i am getting right now, but thats cause i put shoddy headers on (im guessing the only thing that could have done it). it really depends on personal preference. no one can make the decision for you. look at the facts and weigh the outcomes. if you want to drop a load of cash into the sixer and dont care about getting into the tens then do it. i dont think it would be very streetable but whatever. if you just want speed without losing a lot of loot then see what your options are on trading in and getting an eight. you make the call...

Hey, thanks for the info. I appreciate it alot. I think that Chevyracincamaro hit the nail on the head. I will check out prices on both and see what kind of power gains i can get. THANKS EVERYONE!
