94 Lumina ABS eating front pads up. Just started this year from 3,000 miles to 500 miles between changing pads. I have replaced both front calipers and flex hose. Have no codes. There is nothing noticable when braking. I can put the car in neutral and push without much effort. I have owned Luminas for years and this is the first major problem that has me confused. Can anyone help?

Are the rear brakes working?

my 98 lumina goes thru front brakes quickly too, last brake job i replaced both front calipers too. rear brakes fine, very little wear... perhaps not enough braking force in the rear?
get lifetime warranty pads and do it yourself... your only cost is turning your rotors and a couple hours of work.

- I'm not sure if you replaced the pads yourself. My friend paid Brake Depot to do it but later figured they never changed them. That's why his pads were so worn.
- If only one of the wheels had worn pads, I would guess a bad rotor or caliper. But if both wheels have the same pad wear, I can't explain the over-wear.

I had a similar problem. My rear brakes showed very little wear. The front brakes were doing 90% of the work. I adjusted the rear drum brakes and the pedal effort and travel are less now.
These brakes are supposed to self-adjust but in my experience they seldom do.

I hope you don't mind me cutting in on your question, but is the brake problem the only problem you've had with your car? I'm going tomorrow to buy a Lumina and I noticed you said that you had owned one for years and I would really like your advise.

The front pads may be dragging. You did bleed the brakes after you replaced the rubber hoses right? What condition are the rotors in? Do they have alot of really deep scars?

One problem I've had with my '91 lumina is the rear calipers, they are known to cease up. When this happens they are either braking all the time or not braking at all. When they don't work at all, this would cause all of the weight to go on the front pads/rotors. You would notice that the nose of the car drops lower than normal under moderate to heavy braking. take a look at your rear rotors, if they're not smooth and they have an uneaven wear pattern, the rear calipers probably aren't working properly.
